Danny Brown’s “Smokin & Drinkin” first appeared on his critically-acclaimed album Old as the debauched peak of Side B, and has since become a staple of his live shows and a true fan favorite. So it’s only right that Danny’s anthem (produced by Fool’s Gold captain A-Trak and JMIKE) gets a summer single of its own, complete with remixes from some of electronic music’s biggest names and wildest upstarts. Boys Noize strikes first with a frantic blend of breakbeats and rave stabs, while Jack Beats slow “Smokin” down to a late-night acid house stomp. Jersey club king DJ Sliink piles on the basement bass, while FG newcomer TroyBoi turns in a technicolor trap masterpiece. Pick your poison and chant along! The “Smokin & Drinkin” remix EP is out 7/22.
BBC Radio 1′s Annie Mac premiered the Boys Noize remix of “Smokin & Drinkin” and Billboard premiered the remix online. Stream the Boys Noize remix below and the DJ Sliink remix here.
Los Angeles is home to some of the most innovative young club producers in the nation, and Hoodboi may be the most exciting of the bunch.
It’s easy to peg this internet hero as “mysterious,” though we prefer to say that he simply lets the music do the talking. With tracks as exuberantly melodic as they are straight-up banging, Hoodboi’s tunes feel equally at home in a Jersey basement or a Pokemon bonus level. It’s an all-in approach to dance music that’s won him early praise from like-minded artists (Diplo, Ryan Hemsworth, Cashmere Cat) and fueled his rapid ascent from Soundcloud to Coachella in a matter of months.
Fresh from a sold-out Asian tour with A-Trak and a fan-favorite remix of Chromeo’s hit “Jealous,” Hoodboi officially joins the Fool’s Gold family with a new EP due later this year. Meanwhile, get a taste of his signature sound right now with “Bugaboo,” twisting Destiny’s Child’s TRL gem into three minutes and twelve seconds of pristine, futuristic club music that will warm your emoji heart. Check out DJ Hooboi live in July, dates below.
San Francisco producer Charlie Yin has made quite a name for himself turning bedroom beats into dance floor staples as Giraffage. His beloved R&B remixes and vibe-laden solo tracks have won early praise from Pitchfork, The Fader, XLR8R and other tastemakers, all while he seals the deal live with lush, bass-driven performances at Low End Theory, Boiler Room and gigs around the globe.
Giraffage is poised for even bigger things with an expansive new EP out later this year on Fool’s Gold, and he’ll be showcasing these brand-new tracks and more on Porter Robinson’s “Worlds” tour of North America, kicking off August 28th in Vancouver and stretching through October 18th in Miami (dates after the jump). For a taste of what’s in store, check out Giraffage’s ecstatic rework of R. Kelly’s classic summer jam “Ignition (Remix),” as premiered on This Song Is Sick.
The 2014 Made In America line-up in Philadelphia has just been announced and FG’s very own Danny Brown as well as our funk brothers, Chromeo will be jumping onstage along side the likes of Kanye West, Pharrell Wiliams, YG, Holy Ghost!, Destructo, DJ Cassidy and more. Made In America is August 30 and 31 and you can buy your tickets now. See you there and god bless the red, white and blue and GOLD!
When DJ superhero A-Trak joins forces with vanguard production duo Milo & Otis, lock up your stereo equipment…NO BASS IS SAFE. Their irresistibly anthemic collaboration “Out The Speakers” (Just premiered on Esquire) is the first official team-up from these two festival forces (following M&O’s beloved remix with Skrillex and Kill The Noise of Trizzy’s Duck Sauce single “NRG”). They slow down the BPMs to make a speaker-bursting, apartment-evicting monster constructed from screwed rap vocals from ATL’s Rich Kidz, twerked out drums, and what is perhaps mankind’s first recorded “burp drop.” Tweeters beware! Pre-order Out The Speakers on iTunes now, and listen to the stream below.
Party Supplies’ Going Back to New York / Beautiful Girl Remixesis out now on iTunes, featuring new versions from The Knocks and Lazerdisk. Last week the duo premiered the music video for The Knocks’ fist pumping version of “Going Back To New York” on Complex, head over and check out exclusive behind-the-scenes footage now. Read More
Ghetto Cuisine is a potent strain of hybrid California bass from DaVinci and Sweet Valley (aka Joel and Nathan Williams). Fans of both artists’ past work might find the pairing unlikely at first, but these low end theorists are true kindred spirits. On Ghetto Cuisine, the SV bros take their melted-Nintendo-cartridge aesthetic in awesomely dark new directions, setting a black-lit stage for DaVinci’s sharpest street narratives yet, and the end result is twelve THC-fueled trunk rattlers featuring guest appearances from 100s and Main Attrakionz. Pitchfork just spilled the beans on the project and debuted a stream of new track “Got That Line.” The whole tape drops tomorrow at foolsgoldrecs.com/ghettocuisine, grab a fork and get busy.
