Greenmoney Goodies

Posted on Dec 6th, 2010

Our UK bros Greenmoney have been quite busy as of late: dropping new radio shows, new remixes, and even launching an eponymous label of their own with the debut release from Mista Men, “What You Do To Me.” Cop the release on Juno (there’s also a new GM chart) and download an exclusive Greenmoney edit of the tune from Fact Magazine.

More Greenmoney on the way! Be sure to check their debut Gold Ru$h EP out now on Fool’s Gold.

Brooklyn Bananas

Posted on Dec 6th, 2010

Go dance (for free) with Sammy Bananas tonight at Brooklyn Bowl, where he’ll be DJing as a guest at Body Language’s “Jack Frost Your Body” residency, along with Machine Drum. You might remember Sammy’s mix of their “Work This City” earlier this year.

Download Body Language’s free EP here. Check Sammy getting WNYC props, and his new Telephoned single of course. (Time Out Chicago called this weekend’s T’Phoned live show “basically incredible.” Everything’s coming up Sammy!)

Treasure Fingers "Keep Up (Jackson 'Uro Trans' Remix)" on RCRD LBL

Posted on Dec 2nd, 2010

Today RCRD LBL is sharing a synth-superpowered, thoroughly clubbed out remix by Jackson (of “…And His Computer Band” fame) for Treasure Fingers’ vocoder jam with “Keep Up.”

You can grab it on the full “Keep Up” single, out now on Beatport, iTunes and all other mp3 stores slanging our digital wares. There’s also an even crazier Jackson dub (his “Ejack Mix”) and a reworking by dance legend Kenny Dope, who comes back in grimey NYC shake mode. “Keep Up” also kicks off the Fool’s Gold Vol 1 compilation LP, out now.

Rappin Ass Thursdays #50

Posted on Dec 2nd, 2010

It’s only appropriate that for the 50th RAT we switch it up a little bit. I had been thinking about incorporating a mix series into the column for a while – lo and behold, DJ Ayres comes in with a new DJ mix of rappables right on time for this week’s edition.

Download it here and hit the jump for the tracklisting, a mix of brand new joints and recent favorites, many from past columns. Also: Master P DJ drops! Read More

The latest edition of the long-running White Light mix series comes from none other than Nacho Lovers. Sayeth NL: “You could say what strings this mix together is a general feeling of analogue warmth. Moments of dancefloor euphoria spread within a framework of late-night driving music. Music for dark and empty highways and red-lit basement parties, alike.” Download and space out now.

Telephoned "Hold Me"

Posted on Nov 29th, 2010

Today RCRD LBL premiered the debut original track from Telephoned, “Hold Me.” It’s a new progression for the duo of Sammy Bananas and Maggie Horn, an effervescent indie jam that wouldn’t sound out of place next to their signature electronic covers of r&b hits and other poppables (which you’ve heard on their FG EP and free mixtapes, on the road with Chromeo, and at club nights around the world).

The good folks at Scion A/V have pressed this up on limited-edition 7″ vinyl, featuring sleeve art by Mike2600 and backed by a Telephoned cover (but of course!) on the b-side. “Hold Me (Alternate Version)” is a bittersweet gem, turning the dancey original into a delicate, country-flavored acoustic number. Stay tuned to this blawg for details on how to get a physical copy for yourself, meanwhile download both sides of “Hold Me” from these handy RCRD LBL widgets.
