Our gregarious dubsteppin bud 12th Planet wants to give readers of the Fool’s Gold blog some free tickets to his show this Friday in Los Angeles with Kingdom, Squeak E Clean of NASA and more.
We have two pairs of tickets for the first people to hit the comments section with the correct answer to this question: “which player on the 2010 LA Lakers roster is a DJ?” That was quick! Congrats to Philippe and Adrain, see you at the show. And congrats to DJ Mbenga for having an awesome name. Read More

Fool’s Gold’s dynamic duo Telephoned have put together a joyful new mixtape, Keep Their Heads Ringin, just in time for their opening slot on Chromeo’s US tour (which kicked off this week with killer shows in DC and Philly and funks across North America for the rest of the summer).
Keep… gives listeners a perfect taste of the new sounds Maggie and producer Sammy Bananas have woven into their repertoire of party starting not-quite-cover songs. But don’t take our word for it, check what The FADER had to say when they premiered the tape this AM:
“As far as cover bands go, Telephoned’s probably not the one your cousin Lupo from Long Island’s gonna call to play his wedding. Taking their concept from the old game of telephone, the duo of Maggie Horn and Sammy Bananas translate popular music through their various personal filters for an off-the-wall end version of the initial song, drawing on influences which seem to include: NYC nightlife, Hot 97, general fun times, 1990s club music, sequins and neon x-rays. Their second mixtape sticks mostly to the top 40 R&B/rap bent of their first, twisting tracks everybody knows through their high-nightlife techno vision (though Chelley’s “Took the Night” and Teki Latex’s “Dinosaurs With Guns” both get the Telephoned treatment). A version of Donnis’ “Gone” is turned into a kind of screwed down, emo-club Dem Bow, while Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” and Jay-Z’s “On to the Next One” are warped into clamoring, post-Swizz pop art, with Bananas blessedly dipping his foot in the long lost genre of drill n bass.”
This year during Coachella, we got together with our friends from Stones Throw for one fine evening of “disco, boogie and house music” (as the hand-drawn flyer advertised) from Peanut Butter Wolf, The Brothers Macklovitch (A-Trak and Dave1), Mayer Hawthorne, Jokers Of The Scene, James Pants, and Chris Bag Raiders. Aloe Blacc was on mic duties throughout the evening, and, as you can see from the video highlight reel, a groovy time was had by all!
The night went so well, in fact, that we decided to base a whole tour around it: the Stones Throw x Fool’s Gold Discotheque, featuring Peanut Butter Wolf, A-Trak, J Rocc and Nacho Lovers (alongside DJ sets from some very special guests: Treasure Fingers, Holy Ghost!, Mayer Hawthorne and more) kicking off in Chicago with a Lollapalooza afterparty on August 6th and then traveling to San Francisco, Portland, and wrapping up with a very special boat party in Vancouver. Check the lineups and details after the jump! Read More
Kingdom and Dre Skull’s “Club Infinity” night is back, bringing the bass to Santos Party House this weekend along with Dave Nada and a surprise guest. Get into it…
Check out this new mix from FG’s Nick Catchdubs and party co-conspirators DJ Ayres and Jubilee for their Flashing Lights bash, featuring fresh tunes from Kingdom, Nacho Lovers and many more.
