Kingdom has spent the past few years establishing himself as one of the most exciting voices on the North American electronic scene. From his anthemic Fool’s Gold debut “Mind Reader” to his forward-thinking club experiments with the Night Slugs and Fade To Mind crews, no one is making dance music with futuristic R&B textures quite like him.
On Kingdom’s newest single “Take Me”, he goes from deconstructing R&B divas to working with one of his own, Naomi Allen, of the critically acclaimed girl group Electrik Red. The B-side “If You Buck” flips expectations even further as a dreamlike crunk instrumental. The whole package is a summer must-have, and another surprising addition to the Fool’s Gold catalog.
To celebrate this release, Fool’s Gold and Legitmix have partnered on a special exclusive version of the single with an added bonus track – Kingdom’s own remix of beloved R&B duo Floetry’s “Say Yes,” splicing their a cappella atop a definitive Kingdom beat. The edit is a staple of Kingdom’s DJ sets worldwide, and can now be downloaded officially thanks to Legitmix technology. Read More
We’re proud to announce that Fool’s Gold is going to release Danny Brown’s new underground opus XXX on Monday, August 15th as a free download on this very website. (Update: It’s out now, go download!)
The first full-length release from Danny since his acclaimed The Hybrid in 2010, XXX is a concept record about hedonism, growing up, and Detroit, taking listeners on a profane and psychedelic journey through the uncensored mind of rap’s most electric MC. There’s no laundry list of guest appearances or producers-for-hire, keeping the focus squarely on Danny and his rhymes: a triple stack of pop culture references and did-he-really-say-that? provocations atop the heart of a poet. Could it be? The grand return of le duo dynamique?
Fool’s Gold is proud to present the Fair Enough EP from Para One and Tacteel, their first new release in years. It’s not the housed-up Marble madness or club firepower that their remixes or respective back catalogs might lead you to expect. Rather, Fair Enough features five tracks of pure electronic experimentation: midtempo disco (“A1,” “Rome,” “Touch!”), freaked-out mood music (“Tin Drum”), even some straight-up handclapping synthpop (“Always”).
Don’t strain your brain attempting to figure out where to file this one, just kick back and enjoy the sound of two longtime collaborators (reunited and it feels so good!) armed with a whole gang of keyboards and enough faith in each other to try anything. Grab it now on Beatport.
Out today on Beatport is “Music Power,” the supercharged sophomore single from UK duo Kid Gloves, aka Freeform Five and the Freelance Hellrasier. By day, they write and produce for some of the best and brightest in UK pop. Once the lights go out, however, it’s club time! Straight to the speakers we go…
Kid Gloves’ Fool’s Gold debut “Bare Knuckle” was a slice of infectious, cut-n-paste disco house that immediately zoomed into Beatport’s Indie Dance / Nu Disco Top 10 for weeks (and rightfully so!) “Music Power” keeps that same energy and funnels it into one funky-ass, rock em sock em robot of a tune, filled with disembodied vocal samples, joy buzzers, and all manner of industrial grooves for the ravers. Dub Police don D1 flips it into an even bigger bass jam, as only he can.
B-side “Below The Belt” is a sonic sibling to “Bare Knuckle” and it’s joyous loops: seven-minutes and twenty-seconds of stretched out dancefloor joy. This summer club must-have comes remixed by Golden Bug (Gomma / Bang Gang) in full on house mode. Lace up your boxing gloves and your dancing shoes, it’s time to party. Read More
Hit up Beatport this second and grab “You Take Me Higher,” a joyous, totally infectious dance gem from Rogerseventytwo, the numerical gentleman currently riding high as half of TWR72, the duo behind techno hit “Future Tool” and remixes for Hey Today! (Kitsune) and Teki Latex (Sound Pellegrino).
Amazingly, this irresistible disco house singalong went unsigned for months and months until A-Trak (who had made it a staple of his live sets, both solo and as Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden) snapped it up for Fool’s Gold. “You Take Me Higher” is finally ready to go from a fileshared DJ secret weapon to a true club anthem for the summer.
The single package includes a brand new, beefed-up mix of the title track, along with a futuristic, R&B inspired take from Brooklyn upstart Brenmar (Grizzly), and a massive, deep techno version by Italy’s NT89 (Southern Fried). And if that’s not enough, it all comes backed by two more Rogerseventytwo originals: the foot stomping “What You Wanna Be” alongside the synth chops and big room boom of “Future Funk.”
Check Rogerseventytwo rocking with us on July 8th as part of the FOOL’S GOLD TAKES PARIS megaparty going down at Grande Halle De La Villette with A-Trak, Chromeo and many more.
Last weekend the fam trekked out to California for the opening of Dust La Rock’s “Joking Victim” at LA’s HVW8 Gallery, featuring music by Jokers Of The Scene and multimedia collaborations with JK5, Kareem Black, Angela Boatwright and Bruce LaBruce. You can now check out photos from the opening and the entire exhibition at the HVW8 website, as well as purchase prints from the show at the gallery store.
There you’ll also find the limited edition 7-inch single of JOTS “Joking Victim,” featuring an ambient “Laughter Death” mix of their show-inspiring title track, as well as Vin Sol’s darkly groovy “Trocadero Mix,” both making their wax debut. There’s only 100 signed and numbered copies of this bad boy, so grab it while you can! The “Laughter Death” mix also scores one of the pieces in the show, a video collaboration between Dust La Rock and Kareem Black, which you can check after the jump.
Party people attending A-Trak and friends’ upcoming MAGIC 8-BALL TOUR (get your tickets now!) will have a chance to snag a limited-edition Scion A/V 7″ single featuring “Ray Ban Vision” backed by a brand new remix from Luckybeard, aka Phra of Crookers. It’s a jammer! Grab the mp3 now at Pitchfork.
