Hog damn! The second Slow Roast release to grace your ears is the debut of Señor Stereo, a seductively synthy, disco-inspired threesome who’ve spent the past year finely crafting some weapons-grade dancefloor material in the form of their Unintentional EP. The five tracks bounce from moody, new-school Italo vibes to cut up loopmania; it’s a must-bump for the summertime, and announces SS as a true act to look out for!
Chromeo have a new album just around the corner, and having witnessed the brick-by-brick assembly of that beast, I can’t wait for the world to hear it. Dave always sings me his songs before he records them. Somewhere on one of my old MiniDV tapes I have footage of him doing “Momma’s Boy” on the air-Wurli and air-bells when it was just in his head… I need to dig that up. But I digress. They recorded the new album at a studio just a few blocks from my apartment, so I’d go visit them every evening and was the go-to “how does this sound?” guy. I even tracked their vocals on one of the songs. But truthfully, the way they work is extremely self-contained. If they do reach out to someone on the outside, it’ll be some random saxophonist, which has happened a few times already.
Now it’s all done, and it is my pleasure to present to you: “Don’t Turn The Lights On”. Buy it on iTunes! (That’s the US link but it’s also out in the UK.)
In case you’ve been living under a bass-proof rock the past few months: Greenmoney is Alex Phountzi (formerly of Bugz In The Attic crew) and Leo Greenslade (party selector extraordinaire behind London’s long-running YoYo bash), who combined forces to push a forward-thinking UK sound that’s still rooted in dance classics and their collective DJ / production history. You can hear the mash in action on their weekly radio show for Ministry Of Sound, and in featured guest sets on Annie Mac’s “Presents…” shows and in-demand club and festival appearances alongside Jack Beats, Sinden, Skream, Rusko, Fake Blood, and more.
Tune-wise, they’ve built up an extensive remixography over the past year (Kid Sister, Kid Cudi, Boy 8-Bit, Lily Allen), but their FG debut Gold Ru$h is the real deal mission statement: a blazingly hot mix of funky house, dancehall, and hip-hop like no other, featuring guest vocals from Serocee, Mz Bratt and Lady Chann over submarine kickdrums, attack snares and rave sirens galore. Remixes from young upstart Mele and house trailblazer Karizma round out the EP package and make this release a true must-have: grab exclusively at Juno Download, with all digital services to follow. Update: now on Beatport and iTunes!
For a tasty preview, download their Gold Ru$h promo mix, featuring tracks from the new EP alongside other remixes, exclusives from friends like Seiji, Donaeo and Mumdance, surprises… BIG CHOONS. Canada Day comes early! We’re immeasurably proud to drop new gems this morning from Toronto’s Nacho Lovers and Ottawa’s Jokers Of The Scene, two talented duos who have been riding with FG from the very start.
Nacho Lovers’ sophomore single “Deeper” is an uncommonly bumping house journey just in time for summer, backed by remixes from countrymen Azari + III, Mike Mind, and CFCF. Preview on Soundcloud and download on iTunes, Beatport and everywhere else fine music is sold.
The latest from Jokers Of The Scene, “Revolting Joks,” is another expansive anthem – kinky bass unfolding into haunted house piano riffs and surging synth lines for a clever, dark and massive late-night treat. After JOTS’ epic remix of “Wolfen,” Boy 8-Bit returns the favor by flipping “Revolting Joks” as only he can. You can also listen to “Joks” on Soundcloud, purchase on iTunes + Beatport, and of course hum that piano line in your sleep…
Vinyl for both is on the way as well! Stay tuned for more FG clubbers this summer from Greenmoney, K.L.A.M., LA Riots, Treasure Fingers, Duck Sauce and much, much more.
We’re dropping Jokers Of The Scene’s latest single “Revolting Joks” on May 25th as well. Dust La Rock really went all out on the cover art as well (more Dust La JOTS surprises coming this summer…) and the single comes backed by one freakout of a remix courtesy of Boy 8-Bit. Look for it at the end of the month, and preview the tune’s hypnotic piano riff on our European Vacation Tour wrap-up video.
Toronto dance enthusiasts! And all people around the world with an affinity for body music! The new Nacho Lovers single “Deeper” is out at the end of the month (5/25), featuring remixes by countrymen Azari & III, Mike Mind and CFCF. Check out previews at the Nachos’ Soundcloud, or the embedded players after the jump. House music all night long… Read More
After getting people hyped with the music video, and a packed month of “More Fire” tour dates, it’s only right that Congorock’s “Babylon” finally sees official release. The single features a massive vocal version with dancehall don Mr Lexx (the voice behind Major Lazer’s “Hold The Line” and many more lighter-flickers), the instrumental dub you already know and love from the video, and a “Lexxapella” for the DJs to play with. Big!
Grab it next week on Beatport, and all other services shortly there after. Vinyl on its way too, with some huge remixes… oh you thought we forgot about those? Hell naw! If that’s not enough, you can grab these none-more-black Congorock logo tees at our webstore, featuring the new metal logo from the “Babylon” sleeve above, designed by Dust La Rock ov cvrse!
