Madeaux makes his Fool’s Gold debut with the perfectly-titled New Wav EP, reshaping North American dance music in his own image and injecting a needed dose of synth pop realness in the process. The six EP tracks are a wildly diverse bunch, connecting the dots between decades of inspirations. “Kill For Me” bangs like a lost Depeche Mode anthem, while A-Trak collab “Lost In Translation” is the unexpected warehouse jam of the year. Nowhere are these genre-splices more powerful than on New Wav’s title track, where Madeaux flips Kaleena Zanders’ postmodern diva vocals over high-NRG synths and a Miami bass-gone-Berlin drop. The tide is high for this one, and the future most definitely belongs to Madeaux. Download New Wav on iTunes or stream on Spotify!
Black Atlass is quite literally the only artist on earth to soundtrack Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent ads while featuring on Action Bronson songs. This diverse appeal is a testament to the captivating voice of Alex Fleming, the young singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist and who created Black Atlass as a vehicle for his unique vocals, heart-on-sleeve lyrics and experimental production techniques.
Following the well-received “Paris” single and Young Bloods EP (the latter a personal favorite of visionary director Woodkid, who created mind-bending visuals for single “Jewels” featuring Fleming and supermodel Anja Rubik) and this spring’s free Jaderelease, “Haunted Paradise” is the first of three new Black Atlass singles on Fool’s Gold, which will later be accompanied by a series of self-published zines featuring original work from Fleming himself.
The song made its world premier this Saturday on Jaden Smith’s MSFTS FREQUENCY Beats 1 show, awash in stark guitar riffs and dubby reverb. The moody beauty of “Haunted Paradise” sets the stage for a new creative phase of Black Atlass, and we can’t wait to hear what he’s working on next… download “Haunted Paradise” on iTunes or stream on Spotify now.
“BROCKHAMPTON is not another rap collective nor do they aim to be. They are The All American Boy Band and they want the world to take note.” So declares Kevin Abstract, JOBA, Ameer Vann, Matt Champion, Dom McLennon, Rodney Tenor, and Merlyn Wood, straight outta San Marcos, Texas. They came together as BROCKHAMPTON on New Years 2015 and immediately made noise with bold mission statements, crazy style, and peerless music, winning the VFILES x FG x MTV VFILES LOUD! competition with “Dirt,” a postmodern posse cut made from spazzy piano riffs, bugged out references (“my iPhone got iPhones so all my friends can talk to me”), and wildly self-assured flows that bounce from syrup-speed to hyperactive within seconds. Download it on iTunes and watch these internet champs bust out IRL at the first Texas DAY OFF on 9/19, get tickets at fgdayoff.com.
