Our promo-only Fool’s Gold Remixed 12″s finally arrived in the house house house. Four of the biggest tracks off our Scion A/V compilation from this past fall on one thick slab of vinyl: Chromeo’s funked up take on Treasure Fingers’ “Cross The Dancefloor,” Surkin’s choppy version of Nacho Lovers’ “Acid Life,” Rusko dropping dubstep bombs all over Kid Sister’s “Pro Nails,” and Jori Hulkonnen’s hypnotic, techy remix of Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Nite.”
This is a limited, one-time only pressing for friends, fam and assorted DJs, but we were able to get a few copies over to Turntable Lab, so cop it while you can!
Music-wise, A-Trak’s take on Boys Noize’s “Oh” is up for Best Electro House Track, and the Crookers remix of Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Nite” is up for Best Indie Dance/Nu Disco Track. On the artist tip, Bag Raiders and Chromeo are up for Best Indie Dance / Nu Disco Artist, Evol Intent (aka Treasure Fingers and pals) is up for best Drum N Bass Artist…and of course, you can put ANYONE from the FG fam as a write in vote for Most Influential Person. *AHEM* Make an old Goldbar’s dream come true…
Things you might not know about Sammy Bananas: he has a rather large collection of 90s independent rap vinyl (L Da Head Toucha!) and composes for jazz flute. Things you already know (and love) about Sammy Bananas: he is one damn clever DJ!
The young lad is headed down to Australia for a few shows next month and put together an enjoyably funky new tour mix that leans heavy on tracks from the red continent. Listen close for the surprises!
A-Trak’s remix of Sebastien Tellier’s “Kilometer” (off his appropriately lusty Sexual Sportswear LP) has hit the internets this week, with Busy P calling it the “remix of the year” and Pitchfork giving up some props as well. Cop it on Record Makers when l’official single drops in a few weeks. Meanwhile, give it a listen on our Fairtilizer player. Violins!
(Sidebar: always wanted someone to call their list section “Who Charted?” but alas…)
Meanwhile, the Jokers’ sooper scary tech remix of The Subs’ “My Punk” is out now, and you can grab it at Discobelle or Fluokids. Their remixes of Congorock’s “Runark” and Bag Raiders’ “Fun Punch” will be out on FG shortly, along with a bunch of other mixes for other artists/labels, so stay tuned…
Earlier this month Mike Baker (of Trackademicks’ Honor Roll crew) dropped his debut EP online, and you can download it here. It’s 5 original tunes and 4 freestyles over some particularly creative beats (Metro Area, yes please!) More on Mr Baker at his blog, a one-stop shop for new music and classy jawns.
Flosstradamus’ collaboration with Chairlift’s Caroline Polacheck for Green Label Sound, “Big Bills,” now has it’s very own music video. Veddy veddy new wave-y, dudes! Check for remixes from Jokers Of The Scene and more coming soon…
“I don’t appreciate myself or my work being labeled or defined by people, and I have repeatedly and purposely attempted to defy all conventional wisdom as it pertains to ‘the rules’ of our industry…The phrase ‘do what thou wilt’ as written by Francois Rabelais and associated with the philosophy of Thelema is the word of the law I live and work by.”
Duster gives up the goods – and some saucy pull quotes! – on FG art direction and general graphic rules (or lack thereof) to live by in this web feature on Behance.com.
