Brooklyn’s own Fool’s Gold Records takes their annual DAY OFF extravaganza cross country once again, closing out this year’s series of festival events with an all-day party on Sunday, September 25th at Shrine LA Outdoors.
Mac Miller headlines his first Los Angeles show of the year alongside G.O.O.D. Music president (and Clipse legend) Pusha T and FG’s own A-Trak, who’s hitting the decks with an “…and friends” guestlist that always amazes. DAY OFF LA will also feature upstart ATL phenom MADEINTYO, Fool’s Gold’s buzzy young R&B star Black Atlass, and the label’s resident DJ killers Madeaux, Kittens and Nick Catchdubs. And of course, you know it wouldn’t be a DAY OFF without a gang of surprises on deck…
This LA event caps a massive summer of DAY OFF shows for Fool’s Gold, including a New York event at the 34th St Helipad on 8/20 headlined by Migos and Juelz Santana, and a Miami blowout at Soho Studios on 9/17 with Joey Bada$$ and Hudson Mohawke topping a full day of performances from FG signees and some of the world’s most exciting new DJs and MCs. Advance tickets for all three DAY OFF events are available now at fgdayoff.com.
Check out last year’s recap here & more flyers after the jump:
Black Atlass teams up once again with fashion photographer Kenneth Cappello for the stark and bewitching “Blonde” music video. As BA croons (“Your lips take me to California…”) over his own minimal, hypnotic piano loops, lingering shots of Los Angeles at sunset build to a fiery climax. “Blonde” immortalizes the pull of this city’s dark side so powerfully—it’s unclear who is seducing who, but we’ll let the love burn either way.
Haunted Paradise, Black Atlass’ debut album on Fool’s Gold, promises even more snapshots of attraction and temptation. Pre-order the LP now on iTunes (out 8/9).
“Screw the fame as long as my cars is wet / my garments pressed, my weed is green, the bond is kept…” Spend a day in North Philadelphia with GrandeMarshall in the music video for My Brother’s Keeper highlight “Never Change.” Dropping jewels and enjoying simple pleasures from the block to the barbershop and beyond, Grande shows off the blue-collar bars and uncommon ear for beats that place him amongst Philly’s finest.
Summer of Sammy! Brooklyn’s resident sax house maestro is back with “BLO,” his funkiest track yet – and the first in a series of singles leading up to SB’s debut full-length LP. This one’s a heater, flipping classic drum machine grooves and New Jack Swing snares for a new generation. B-side “Pal Sammy” keeps it cheeky on the late night tip, making this double-stuffed single a must have on warm weather playlists worldwide.
Grab it now on Fool’s Gold, and celebrate the release with Sammy at Trophy Bar in Brooklyn this Saturday, 7/9 with The Whooligan (Soulection) and more. Check the flyer after the jump!
The DAY OFF MIA lineup is here and it’s innnnnnnsane! Our 2016 throwdown on Saturday, 9/17 is an all-ages event for the history books. Fool’s Gold’s BK neighbor and Pro Era general Joey Bada$$ headlines alongside A-Trak & Friends (will he top last year’s surprises of 2Chainz and Juvenile?) and Hudson Mohawke, fresh off supercharging Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo and Boys Noize’s latest LP. Young ATL heroes Playboi Carti and Lil Yachty set fire to the rap rulebook, FG sparkplugs Ape Drums and BOSCO & Speakerfoxxx provide tropical vibes, and turntable vets Nick Catchdubs and Damaged Goods keep the party going all day long.
A-Trak’s feel good, Phantogram-featuring summer jam “Parallel Lines” is already a must-have on any party playlist. But why stop there? The Fool’s Gold founder has enlisted six of dance music’s wildest talents for a “Parallel Lines” remix package programmed like a festival stage in its own right. MSTRKRFT’s triumphant electro revival, Bart B More’s Dutch house, Chris Lorenzo’s new-school bump, Holl & Rush’s big-room muscle, Doobious’ synthy club and BLU J’s futuristic bass… each new spin on “Parallel Lines” deserves to be played as loudly as possible.
After conquering the world several times over as one half of electronic titans Flosstradamus, Josh Young traded the stage for the studio, buckling down for a beat-a-day challenge that would quickly morph into Me2, a new solo project informed by his Chicago DJ roots and all-around pop culture appetite. If festival dance music has gotten stale, Me2 is the antidote: wildly fun, shuffle-mode samples meet the Floss muscle fans know and love. His free Fool’s Gold debut, Steal This Mixtape, is a diesel-powered introduction to one of our favorite producers stepping out on his own. Download it now and add very rare Me2 caps to your collection!
Upstart San Francisco producers BLU J turn the dream factor all the way up on A-Trak’s “Parallel Lines,” sending his Phantogram collab straight to future house heaven. Get in your feelings, and get ready for even more “Parallel Lines” remixes on Fool’s Gold this summer.
