For three years running, our annual DAY OFF party has been THE most talked about free music event in New York. The Labor Day extravaganza has featured the likes of Juicy J, A$AP Rocky, Just Blaze, Araabmuzik and the late, great DJ Mehdi. This year’s party was raved about by the New York Times, Village Voice, Pitchfork and countless others. So it’s only right that we transport our hometown insanity to the West Coast for the first-ever Los Angeles DAY OFF on Sunday, October 7th!
Highlights of Cali’s inaugural DAY OFF lineup include performances from FG capo A-Trak and the label’s reigning rap hero Danny Brown, a special DJ set from world class funksters Chromeo, longtime homies and 808 kings the Cool Kids, LA favorite Casey Veggies, and many more of Fool’s Gold’s illustrious artists, including Congorock, Oliver, Donnis, Kingdom, Nick Catchdubs, and special guests. You do not want to miss this one!
Who’s house? FOOL’S HOUSE! We’re keeping heads and doorbells ringing all this month for the Fool’s Gold House Party tour, a trek across the US where A-Trak, Flosstradamus and Donnis will be bringing their patented blend of party rocking to non-traditional venues, DIY spaces and, yes, peoples houses! Venue details and info announced the week of the show, sign up for info at djatrak.com/houseparty.
Danny Brown’s “Grown Up” showcases the Detroit MC’s peerless flow and truly original style. Now it’s your to show and prove with your own spin on it! Cardo is the peerlessly funky young producer who has provided smoked out soundbeds for a literal Who’s Who of rap’s new generation. After helping craft Wiz Khalifa’s sound on the beloved Kush & OJ and Taylor Allderdice mixtapes, and lacing everyone from Freddie Gibbs to Mac Miller with his signature grooves, Cardo reaches new musical heights on his debut EP, Everything I$ Gold. Get it now on iTunes!
It’s equal parts gangsta soul music, futuristic synthesizer trips, and unstoppable 808 bump, an awesomely region-less hybrid inspired by DJ Quik and Pimp C classics but rightfully belonging to one dude alone… Cardo on the beat! (For even more tracks, check out his Foolcast mix featuring two hours of Cardo’s production for other artists.)
Check out this new mix from Zinc for Fact Magazine, featuring a teaser of the Natalie Storm version of his A-Trak collab “Stingray,” as well as another new Trizzy collab (with Tommy Trash!) and other expertly bumping tracks.
One of the highlights of Summer ’12 was the opportunity to wile out extra, extra hard with Flosstradamus and several thousand of their livest fans! Check out the video recap above and see why you can’t miss the Hoodie Boyz when they hit a town near you…
Once again, the talk of the town for Labor Day weekend in NYC was our annual, free DAY OFF bash, going down this Monday, September 3rd at the City Winery Backyard. This all-ages downtown staple features a who’s who of party heroes from the label’s friends and family: Danny Brown, Brothers Macklovitch, Just Blaze, Flosstradamus, Flatbush Zombies, Ricky Blaze, Nick Catchdubs, Party Supplies, Telephoned and Been Trill, with guest spots from A$AP Rocky, Theophilus London, World’s Fair and more.
The cops shut it down right before headliner French Montana took the stage, but we kept it moving with the NIGHT OFF afterparty a few blocks over at Westway, featuring DJ sets from Brenmar, Anna Lunoe and DJ Wonder, hosted by Donnis. Check out full photogalleries from Kirill Was Here and Brook Bobbins, with some of our favorites after the jump! Read More
