Commercials for the new Samsung Galaxy Note have been all over the television as of late. You might have caught one and said to yourself, “did they just shout out Fool’s Gold?” In fact, it was our buddy Grotesk showing off his shirt from the FG artist series as an example of how his design firm Doubleday & Cartwright does biz with technology. Check it out above, and grab the Grotesk shirt in question from our webstore. Read More
The latest item to hit the Fool’s Gold webstore (and our retail headquarters on 536 Metropolitan Ave in BK) is a special edition book / 7″ vinyl combo package of author Dave Tompkins’ How To Wreck A Nice Beach. Grab it now!
This respected music journalist and bugged out prose purveyor spent years tracing the history of electronic voices from World War II laboratories to 80s synth music to cell phones. With interview subjects ranging from Ramellzee to T-Pain (and of course our own P-Thugg dropping vocoder science), this fascinating, lovingly researched and entertainingly written book is a must. The expanded softcover edition comes complete with a bonus color vinyl 7″ single of vocoder jams from Dave’s personal collection.
When he’s not designing camo bucks for Bathing Ape or, y’know, being named GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer, Marc McNairy is listening to a whooooole lot of Danny Brown. He’s a superfan, as this new shirt (entitled, naturally, the Cool Ranch Doritos T) from his New Amsterdam collection will attest. Pick one up while they last.
Head over to iTunes to grab the new LP of club mixes Surkin commissioned from his pals. Everybody from Rustie to Brodinski has their way with tunes from the USA album, including our own A-Trak, who whipped up a chunky take on “Never Let Go,” which you can check below. Lezdooit!
Telephoned is DJ/producer Sammy Bananas and singer Maggie Horn, a dynamic duo specializing in unique covers, unexpected pop jams and general good times. Switchboard sees the group turning that vibe into a monthly NYC party with remix and remake-heavy sets from their friends and fam (and themselves, of course), featuring everything from The Suzan gleefully bashing away on a Miike Snow song to Nick Catchdubs dropping a set of ’80s-jacking Bad Boy hits.
You don’t want to miss out this Tuesday (April 17th), when Telephoned celebrates the party’s one year anniversary at Drom on Avenue A. They’ll be performing alongside Mattie Safer and Party Supplies, while Nick Catchdubs, Autobot of Flosstradamus, DJ Wonder and Musa throw down DJ sets. The night is also a fundraiser for CCFA, an Crohns and colitis research organization that Maggie will be running a half marathon for this summer (more information and links to donate here). Good tunes, good cause… we’ll see you there! Check the full flyer after the jump. Read More

It’s that time of year again… we’re throwing a daytime bash for all the party people headed to Palm Springs this weekend for Coachella. It’s going down this Sunday, April 15th as part of the Hard Rock Hotel’s Music Mansion. Update: added some big gunz to the lineup in the form of Flying Lotus and Oliver, who’ll be joining Daniel LeDisko, Nick Hook of Cubic Zirconia, (Thee) Mike B and a special tag team DJ set from label founders A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. Woah!
Oh snap! We teased our new Starter snapbacks on Instagram a while back, and now they’re available for you to preorder from the FG webstore (hats expected to ship May 1st). Act fast, these won’t be around long. More pics after the jump. Read More
