Fool’s Gold’s annual DAY OFF is an end-of-summer institution. For seven years running, the all-day event has become a celebration of everything the beloved, genre-crossing Brooklyn label stands for— a musical slip ’n slide, connecting the city’s livest, most stylish fans and and a Who’s Who of new-school legends. DAY OFF is a scene in the truest sense of the word, a festival programmed like your favorite DJ set.
Who’s rocking the 2016 edition? Atlanta’s royalty Migos and rap anarchist Lil Yachty. Two generations of Harlem kings in Dipset legend Juelz Santana and rising star Dave East. FG chief A-Trak setting it off as a maestro behind the decks (and a conductor of special guests like none other), and fellow turntablist Gaslamp Killer providing his signature psychedelic bass. With label familia Nick Catchdubs, Meyhem Lauren, Leaf and more keeping the party going all day long, it’s another can’t-miss Fool’s Gold event.
It goes down on Saturday, August 20th in Brooklyn. Tickets for FGDO NY are available now at fgdayoff.com — earlybird tickets for FGDO Miami (9/17) and Los Angeles (9/25) go on sale this Friday at 1pm EST.
The newest installment of A-Trak’s “Short Cuts” video series features a scratchy LigOne remix of “We All Fall Down” feat. Jamie Lidell. Elegantly shot in a basilica of beats, the French producer (and world DMC champion) shows off his sound’s power to possess. Download the track.
Canadian FG crew members and friends are coming home to perform an epic show at MURAL Festival in Montreal on 6/12. With a bomb lineup featuring A-Trak, Shash’U, Roy Wood$, Kardinal Offishall & so many more, you definitely won’t be standing around the punch bowl for this one. Grab your tix here and peep the recap from last year!
A-Trak always puts a unique, er, spin on things. The electronic music tastemaker, DJ hero and all-around cultural force kicks the summer off with the new single “Parallel Lines,” taking the feel-good vibes of last year’s “We All Fall Down” (over 10M streams) to even catchier new heights. With festival favorites Phantogram providing soaring vocals, A-Trak mixes guitar riffs with his signature, turntable-inspired production and peerless ear for beats. The end result is a lush, genre-defying jam ready to burrow into your brain for the next several months. Throw an umbrella in your drink and vibe on out… Listen to “Parallel Lines” now!
Fool’s Gold is an army! The beloved Brooklyn imprint is more than just a record label, but a coalition of guerrilla DJs and like-minded party people. With FG’s new Night Shift compilation serving as their explosive mission statement, these midnight marauders will take their sound on the road for the annual “Gold Gone Wild” North American club tour, kicking off 5/5 in Denver, CO.
Headlined by Australian wildman Tommy Trash (whose own Luv U Giv Remixes EP drops this Friday, 4/8 on FG), “Gold Gone Wild” features a rotating cast of Fool’s Gold all-stars including Gladiator, Rome Fortune, Madeaux, Nick Catchdubs, Kittens and Shash’U. With FG captain A-Trak joining the fun on select dates, “Gold Gone Wild” is a can’t miss DJ trek like none other. Check full lineups and ticket info at foolsgoldrecs.com/goldgonewild. A-Trak and Ookay’s bass anthem “Only One” races alongside Athletixx’s experimental clubber “PNTHR,” while massive remixes of electro royals Tommy Trash and Alvin Risk ride shotgun with tunes from upstarts KRNE, GEOTHEORY and Madeaux. Rap vocals from Atlanta, house beats from London, synth riffs from planets unknown… Night Shift is an enjoyably motley mix of styles, tempos and attitudes, bound together by a definitive Fool’s Gold aesthetic. The turntables might wobble but they don’t fall down… the same can’t be said for A-Trak’s cowgirl friends in the delightfully absurd new video for his hit Jamie Lidell collaboration “We All Fall Down.” Featuring a mechanical bull dance partner, some brave sweethearts of the rodeo, and Trizzy holding court as saloon master of ceremonies, this “WAFD” video is one foot-stomping night out. Watch the video here and order the 7″ vinyl backed with “Jamie’s Version” at store.foolsgoldrecs.com.
Trizzy recapped all the top-shelf beats and bangers of 2015 on the last episode of his Beats 1 Day Off Radio show. “2 hours of my favorite jams of the year. Not just the big anthems, a lot of personal favorites too.” Listen now on Soundcloud and Apple Connect, and check Day Off Radio every week!
Trizzy puts a new spin on his big tune by enlisting some of dance music’s freshest for a new remix package. Cory Enemy and Syre provide a sunglasses-ready tropical take, while Paris hotshot Dombresky goes heavy and dark in advance of his debut EP on Fool’s Gold in 2016. eSQUIRE cranks up the pianos on a feel-good “Houselife” remix, and JayKode brings ultra-melodic trap energy to his version. Newcomers STFU and longtime FG fam Willy Joy crank up the bass on their respective remixes to close out the EP on a high note. Fall down and turn up! Listen to We All Fall Down Remixeshere.
