Time for one of my long-winded tour novelas. I recently wrapped up a European tour that spanned the whole month of May, one which I arbitrarily named the Upper Crust Tour at the last minute, in honor of that beloved chain of sandwich shops found in almost all train stations. After doing a whole bunch of tours with other people — the Fool’s Gold fam, Mehdi, Kanye, etc — I felt like going off to clubland (Europe) and back to raw DJing practically every night for 4 weeks. Of course I wasn’t literally by myself the whole month. In most cities I was sharing bills with friends from either continent. But it did feel like a pilgrimage to the land of the DJ, and on off-days I would often link up with other producers and work on music. I loved it. I started a Flickr page towards the beginning of my trip so you can catch my full set of pics here. Let’s dive into it. Read More

We alluded to it back in March, now Pitchfork is officially spilling the beans about Running Man, A-Trak’s take on Nike+’s successful series of original workout jamz from the likes of LCD Soundsystem and other upstanding citizens. Running Man features 45 minutes of original music (and serves as A-Trak’s full-length production debut), Kid Cudi pops up for a guest spot, Dust provides exclusive digital booklet illustrations, and you can cop the whole thing on iTunes on June 24th.

Speaking of awards…this past April, the winners of the annual Mixtape Awards (aka the Justos, in honor of their founder, the late Justo Faison) were announced at a ceremony in NYC. Lo and behold, right at the top of the list for “Best Canadian Mixtape DJ” was Fool’s Gold’s very own A-Trak. Sharing the winners circle with Khaled, Miami Kaos and Cocaine City DVD Magazine is a memorable moment, to say the least, so of course we want to be able to grab the actual award for Trizzy while he’s touring overseas. Except no one seems to know where to pick it up. If you do, hit us up.

Today I’m in my 10th hotel room in 12 days. One of the underrated sciences of the proverbial tour life is remembering your room number day after day after day after day. Of course you can simply keep the little cardboard sleeve with your key-card but where’s the fun in that? So I was trying to analyze what goes on in my head when I step into that elevator and think, “Shit, what’s my room?” Read More

First things first, make sure you check out the official recaps of the Screaming Bloody Murder tour here and here. We did 8 untamed shows in 10 days, it felt like a barbarous blitz of rave riot. Sammy Bananas is the new official mascot of Fool’s Gold and his mustache couldn’t have been more timely. Steve is a dynamo, I don’t know where he gets his energy. And Sinden is my brother from a British mother. I can officially say the 2nd Fool’s Gold tour was a smash hit, and before I could even catch up with any sleep I was off to Coachella. Read More

As Busy P’s expertly Photoshopped show flyer should have told you, this past weekend of jams at the Coachella festival was a veritable FG family reunion. Brothers! Sisters! French cousins! But we’re back now (sunburnt, caffeinated, blogging) and the fruits of our festival self-Googling are yours after the jump. More added as we find ‘em. Read More

On Sunday, you can check A-Trak and Kid Sister on the Gobi Stage and Chromeo on the Sahara Stage (full festival calendar here) and on Saturday you can check LA Riots, Flosstradamus, Nick Catchdubs and XXXChange playing the boosted mobile “Desert Poppin Pool Party” at the Mod Resort, 10 minutes away from the festival grounds (RSVP is a must).
