Ever since we first started Fool’s Gold, we always considered Diplo’s Mad Decent to be our brother label in the North American music/DJ scene, and the feeling was mutual. We would constantly brainstorm ideas for ways our two labels could work together, and one of the most fun was a Post-It Note that simply read “MAD FOOLS RAVE IN THE WOODS.” We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer with next Sunday’s (7.20) free Central Park SummerStage show, the first annual “Mad Fools” featuring Santogold, Diplo, A-Trak, Kid Cudi, Mz Streams with DJ Blaqstarr, and surprise guests. Get ready! And get there early – there will be free shirts featuring the above artwork by Dust La Rock and Mike Jones of Mishka. Afterparty details soon…
This video was sent to me by my buddy Jon Goldstein who’s one of Kanye’s light designers. That’s no small feat… For a long time Kanye’s LDs were like Spinal Tap drummers. He’d go through them like it ain’t no thang. But I digress. Remember my blog about Nigeria? Here’s an airport moment.
I was only back from Europe for 2 weeks when I boarded that cheap charter flight where they fed us President’s Choice TV dinners and headed back to Ye Olde Continent. First stop, Paris. I was booked to play a Vice party with that tall frenchman known as Busy P. Before the gig they had an Ed Banger in-store at Virgin where a special guest was advertised. That was me, I’m special. Hard to keep a surprise when I’m the only guy on Serato, going on stage to make sure they have the turntables plugged right. The Virgin Megastore is really big and it was fun to have an all-ages audience. They had us playing on a mixer that I don’t know and I spent my whole set looking for the “crossfader on” switch, but aside from that it went well! Read More
Now that A-Trak’s Running Man mix is out this week on iTunes in its full 45-minute workout format, we can direct you to these stand-alone nuggets: single “Say Woah,” and the original version of “Mastered” featuring Lupe Fiasco (who couldn’t be cleared and ended up replaced by Kid Cudi on the final Original Run version).
Fool’s Gold meets the Swedish House Mafia, as Trizzy tours Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso’s villa in Ibiza. Check this, the previous episode of A-Trak TV (starring Busy P), and all future installments here.
Dudes! You’ve known since this post that I was about to come out with a record for all your jogging needs. This is essentially my first record — can you feel the excitement in my blogging style today? Anyway it’s out now and you can cop it on iTunes. It’s available all over the world but our North American friends also get a 5 minute “behind the scenes” style video shot in my studio living room.
I just landed in Barcelona for the famous Sonar festival. We were billed as “DJ Mehdi vs A-Trak feat Kid Sister”. I love it because it’s a math formula: “vs” is like “x” and “feat” is like “+”. But wait, there’s an issue with the priorities! Is it (DJ Mehdi x A-Trak) + Kid Sister, or DJ Mehdi x (A-Trak + Kid Sister) ? In other words, the DJs and the MC, or Europe meets America? I think I might ask the organizers. Strictly speaking, the way they wrote it without parentheses it should mean the first one. But Kid Sis actually canceled last week so they might not be receptive to my little question.
We’ve been remiss in not shouting out the Hard LA festival, which pops off in a matter of weeks (July 19th!) at the Shrine Expo Center in LA. If you didn’t see the giant airplane ad flying over Coachella, or watched the festival’s Truckasaurus-worthy TV commercial, know this: it’s gonna be a MAJOR RAGER featuring N.E.R.D., MSTRKRFT, Spank Rock, and FG’s own Kid Sister, A-Trak, and LA Riots, along with Steve Aoki, Kill The Noise, Bloody Beetroots and a bunch of other fine folks. Get your advance tickets now. And stay hydrated!
