It’s a complete coincidence that Kid Sister and I were booked to perform at New York and LA’s Museums of Natural History on consecutive weekends. The events were unrelated, we’re not on a museum tour or anything.
Both turned out to be awesome in their own way. You already saw what the New York one was like last week… Kiiiinda crazy, with the surprise appearance of a fur-clad Kanyeezy. That one was in the planetarium, so it was very much a multi-media themed room. The LA show this weekend was a lot more like what you’d expect to see in a museum of natural history: a giant dinosaur skeleton when you walk in and a bunch of displays of impeccably preserved yaks, bisons, sea lions (those things are big!) and other cuddly creatures in simulated home habitat backdrops. How many times did I yell “stegosaurus!” on the mic during my set? One may never know. Read More

This morning I had to wake up at 6am to go to the airport. In the car I was thinking of the expression “the bane of my existence” and wondered if bane is one of those words that you only find in a specific expression. I’ve never heard the word bane elsewhere. So I looked up the definition on my phone. As it turns out you can also say “the bane of my life”, and bane can be used in other sentences. It means death or ruin. I also learned that there are poison names like wolfsbane that follow the model:
Fast-forward many hours later. I’m in LA getting ready for my show and somehow the Australian city Brisbane pops in my head. And then I think, could Brisbane mean death by bris, i.e. circumcision? An operation gone wrong?

Mack Mittens and Ms. Sister share a chuckle about tight jeans
Imagine Allen Iverson running up the Rocky art museum steps wearing Will Smith’s Speed Racer shirt from the “Summertime” video, multiply it by a million and this will still be more awesome-er…
This Saturday night (Jan 19th) Kid Sister and A-Trak hit Philadelphia to open for Akon, Freeway and Beanie Sigel – yes, you read that correctly – at Solo Nightclub (tickets here), followed by an afterparty at Transit with Nick Catchdubs alongside Philly’s own Brendan Bring’em, Dirty South Joe, and DJ Sega. We were first supposed to go to Nigeria exactly one year ago for some Kanye dates but it was canceled because Jay-Z and Beyonce had just gone and they found it dangerous. So when I found out we were going this year I was like “oh great”…. but then I thought: we’re only going for 2 or 3 days and we probably won’t see anything else than the plane, the hotel and the venue so heck, this won’t feel any different than El Paso, Texas. I wasn’t shook anymore. Then as we got closer, they told us we had to get shots against hepatitis A and thyphoid and start taking malaria pills. “How victorian!” said my girlfriend. The band was flying out on the 12th but I had booked this 10.Deep x Fool’s Gold holiday party in New York on that date. Can’t I fly out on the 13th? Isn’t the first show on the 14th? “You can fly with Kanye on the private jet,” they tell me. Alright, if you insist.
