Welcome to the inaugural Rappin Ass Thursdays (mega pause!)
I wanted to post up some more music on the blog that wasn’t directly FG related and this seemed like the best way to start. Every Thursday I’m gonna compile my favorite new downloads of the week just in time for you to grab before the weekend. This first one has tracks from GLC & Christian Rich, Wale, Donny Goines f. Che Grand & Izza Kizza, and DJ Soul’s Big L tribute mix. Lesssgoooooooooooo!!! Read More
Next week Flashing Lights bros Nick Catchdubs & DJ Ayres hit Australia for some team-up gigs, then Catch does the continent solo the following weekend (including Warehouse Festival in Canberra alongside our pals Armand Van Helden, Laidback Luke, Riva Starr and more) so be sure to come out and party.
The guys recorded this new “Just Kickin It…” promo mix for the occasion, and you can download and check the tracklist after the jump, along with the full dates. Read More
Keeping with todays interview theme, a bunch more Q&As with the fam have popped up on these internets of ours over the past few days. Read up on your read ups!
This Friday (5/8) in Brooklyn sees the latest edition of Flashing Lights, a monthly jam courtesy of FG’s own Nick Catchdubs with DJ Ayres, Jubilee and a rotating cast of guests. The May edition is going down in a warehouse on North 3rd St, featuring a set from Lauren Flax and a special live performance by a “secret live band” from our BK neighbors Trouble & Bass. Gonna be crazy – and there will be rave juice served in plastic bags once again! – so RSVP for reduced entry! Get hyped by downloading previous FL promo DJ mixes here.
Tonight at LPR in NYC (yay abbreviations!) it’s the debut edition of JAMS, a new party from Nick Catchdubs of Fool’s Gold, Mattie Safer of The Rapture / Throne Of Blood, and DJ Lindsey of Negroclash / general all-around awesomeness. They promise “hip-hop, r&b, club classics, and new new” and you can get a taste of what’s in store on their promo DJ mix for the party – download link and tracklist after the jump. Read More
Following up their debut collab Kizzaland, Izza Kizza and FG honcho Nick Catchdubs have teamed up once more for Wizard Of Iz, a brand new mixtape inspired by one of MJ’s finest moments. Download it for free at izzakizza.com (here’s a bonus Sendspace link too) and bump 14 brand new tracks featuring guest spots from Lil Wayne, Birdman, David Banner and Colin Munroe and production by Nottz, Koolade and more. RAPS!
Tonight in NYC, Catch & Kizz will be celebrating the release with a party at the Red Bull Space on 40 Thompson St. RSVP is a must! 88 Keys will also be performing, In4Mation and Decon made gift bags, and Asahi will be providing an open bar. Click here for the big flyer with all info.
Last Thursday’s “Best Of The Beast” opening was the place to be, as a couple hundred of our best friends and fam came out for Fool’s Gold art director Dust La Rock’s debut solo show. Queen Majesty, Vin Sol, Nick Catchdubs and Dave1 spun the tunes, Red Stripe and Vitamin Water provided refreshments, Fader debuted their new issue, Worship Worthy made sure everything ran smoothly and a literal who’s who of NYC’s creative community brought infinite good vibes to celebrate one of their own.
This year’s edition of the Fool’s Gold WMC Spectacular was our second consecutive year tearing down White Room in downtown Miami, and we finally got back all the pics and video documenting the fun-splosion. After a packed weekend of shows, we started the day bum rushing the Stones Throw pool party, killed a giant family dinner at the steakhouse, then hit the clurb. Along with all the FG fam rocking on stage (Sammy Bananas, Nick Catchdubs, Treasure Fingers, Jokers Of The Scene and Nacho Lovers – who took over the whole side room for a night of deeeeeeep house and techno) we played host to special guests Steve Aoki, DJ Mehdi, a rare Annie Mac x Fake Blood tag team, and hometown hero Craze, who ended his set by rocking with A-Trak in an epic impromptu scratch session.
We went the whole night long, staying packed long after the other shows closed down (and gave us second and third winds as the party people trickled in). Check the pics and video after the jump, and Ian Meyer’s full photo gallery here. Also peep A-Trak and Mehdi’s solo blog recaps. Read More
Check out the latest episode of James Mountain’s Escape Plan on Ministry of Sound Radio for an interview on the beach with A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, as well as a guest mix from Catchy featuring a slew of new and recent tunes from the FG roster.
