Flyer Foolin

Posted on Jul 16th, 2009

The calendar section coming up on our new website is gonna be crayjeeee, but until then the best place to keep up with tour dates for the whole Fool’s Gold family is our MySpace and Twitter, which we keep updated daily with the comings (ayo!) and goings of the FG fam. That said – we can’t neglect the regular ol’ blog neither!

Here’s a bunch of flyers for gigs coming up this weekend, including DJ Gant-Man and Jokers Of The Scene rocking separate parties in Chicago tonight (JOTS also hit SD on Saturday), LA Riots and Nick Catchdubs in NYC Friday along with Sammy Bananas with Switch in LA, Treasure Fingers in Vancouver and Andrew Ross of Nacho Lovers in Toronto that same night (he’s reunited with the other Nacho in Calgary Saturday), and of course the ‘Burger trio who stay hitting towns near you on the DAILY (including SF tonight with Trackademicks). Support real live DJs! Read More

FLS GLD RCRDS

Posted on Jul 13th, 2009

We definitely believe in the power of smart partnerships and teamwork over at FG HQ, which is probably why one of our earliest outside supporters was fellow start-up RCRD LBL, who built their whole site around supporting artists and presenting great selections of free, authorized new music.

We’ve done free downloads and track debuts with RCRD LBL for almost as long as we’ve been a label ourselves, and this Tuesday (7.14) we’re linking up with them yet again for the 1st RCRD LBL “Friends & Family Meet Up” from 7-10pm at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC. Reps from the family of labels involved on the site (Fool’s Gold, Ghostly, Warp, etc) will be premiering tons of brand new and unreleased music – and generally just kicking it – so come through and start your evening with us!

To get you psyched, hit the jump to download ALL of the free Fool’s Gold music available on RCRD LBL – tracks, remixes (our own as well as jams our artists have crafted for others), mixtapes and more. Over 50 tracks! Read More

It's a Fam'ly Affair

Posted on Jun 24th, 2009

Friends and Fam-a-lam from far and wide! (or at least the tri-state..) Thursday night, June 25th will be my inaugural appearance at Fam, a brand new weekly Thursday party featuring a rotating cast of NY Killas, namely DJ Eleven (who’s there with me tomorrow), Queen Majesty, Sureshot, Morsy, Jr-Flo and Lindsey & Myles! You’ll be able to catch me and one other member of this elite squad at Von Kellar once a month rocking their basement system. On a not entirely unrelated note, check out this bonkers, nearly unwatchable late 80’s Hall & Oates cover of Sly Stone’s classic “Family Affair” live from Tokyo.

Thunderheist – Nothing 2 Step 2 (Sammy Bananas Remix)

Thunderheist – Nothing 2 Step 2 (Sammy Bananas Remix) [MP3]

Another week, another epic remix from your man Sammy B! (why do I give all this stuff away??)  Thunderheist is a Toronto duo on Big Dada who are currently on tour for forever in support of their newly released, self-titled album.  Grahm is a beast on the boards and Isis is one hell of a live performer (secretly she can really rap her ass off too.)  I had a blast making this one so cop, pop and rock.

Passion Pit "The Reeling (Sammy Bananas' Big Choon Mix)"

Passion Pit – The Reeling (Sammy Bananas’ Big Choon Mix) [mp3]

My connection with Passion Pit dates back to December 2007, when my band Miss Fairchild was planning a show at legendary Boston venue Great Scott and were looking for an opening act.  A friend suggested I check out this new band made up of some kids from Emerson College.  I went to their myspace and had “Sleepyhead” on the brain the rest of the day.  They graciously agreed to join the bill with us for their first real show off the Emerson campus.  My man Etan from Basstown (a.k.a Ninja Tune recording artist Shuttle, a.k.a Nate Donomyer) was the guest DJ at the show that night and went on to become PPs drummer.

Today I present the next chapter in my history with this awesome band, my official remix of “The Reeling,” the first single off the band’s debut LP Manners.  I’m really really pumped about this track and hope you check it out.  Shout to Nate and Passion Pit, keep killing it dudes!

Birthday Bananas

Posted on May 15th, 2009

Wish a happy born day to our man Sammy Bananas tonight at Savalas in BK, where he’ll be DJing with Caps and probably eating a cake of some sort. Mr Bananas was just over at FG HQ this week playing some new productions, including remixes for Thunderheist and Passion Pit, as well as a new remake from his Telephoned project (which you can preview here) so stay tuned!
