Fifteenth is the peerlessly groovy production duo comprised of Brooklyn’s Sammy Bananas and LA’s Thee Mike B. These bicoastal DJ bros have combined forces on Fool’s Gold once again with “Yesterday,” a dreamy slice of sunset-ready house music, out next week (5/14, the day before Sammy and Mike’s ACTUAL shared birthday that gave the group it’s namesake).
“Yesterday” is the rare jam that’s perfect for pool parties and heartfelt homemade mixtapes alike, backed by some amazing remixes from international homies His Majesty Andre, Funkin Matt, and Jerome LOL. Check out the snippets, crank it up, and make some memories of your own.
You have nine days left to contribute to Sammy’s vinyl Kickstarter (the goal is reached, but there’s a few vinyl packages still available), but in the meantime, get busy with this mix of some of his favorite unofficial remixes over the past ten years. The funk is there, friends.
Along with his own exceptionally fun original music (both solo and as half of Telephoned and Fifteenth), Sammy Bananas has been cranking out some of the best bootlegs in the biz for over a decade. Whether reanimating R&B throwbacks or twisting present-day pop into uptempo weapons of dance destruction, Mr Bananas just has a knack for the funk! He always wanted to press some of his biggest boots to vinyl, and now thanks to Kickstarter you can help make it happen! Check the link for full details and info on the different fan packages available.
The free Telephoned EP Singles is the duo’s grunge valentine, covering cuts from Cameron Crowe’s soundtrack over Ryan Hemsworth beats. Sammy and Maggie turned Seattle rockers into R&B slow jams in the process (even CC himself approves, tweeting at Telephoned to do “Dyslexic Heart” and “State Of Love And Trust” next!) and now they’ve dropped a video for their take on Screaming Trees’ “Nearly Lost You” (put together by our own Josh Wehle).
This Wednesday (12/5) we’re hosting an event in the Fool’s Gold store for DJs Against Climate Change, the non profit organization founded by Sammy Bananas. Now entering it’s 5th year of helping DJs offset the environmentally damaging carbon emissions produced from their airplane travel, the DJACC uses artists’ cultural influence to show how everyone can take responsibility for their impact on Climate Change.
Find out more (and donate!) at indiegogo.com/DJACC, and come thru the store this Wednesday, where Sammy will break down ways to combat climate change in person while Nick Catchdubs, Star Eyes (Trouble & Bass) and DJ Ayres (The Rub) play tunes from 6-9pm. We’ll also have complimentary refreshments from our friends at Bushmills. Hang and learn! Read More
Telephoned go grunge with Singles, their upcoming free EP inspired by the Cameron Crowe film (and iconic soundtrack) of the same name. Check Sammy and Maggie as they flip Screaming Trees “Nearly Lost You” over a repurposed Ryan Hemsworth beat, turning it into a moody, bittersweet r&b slow jam in the process. Stay tuned for the rest next week…
Some of the biggest names in big-room will be throwing down, and in the upstairs “Pachita” room, Fool’s Gold and Trouble & Bass DJs will be doing their part to party for the cause: Nick Catchdubs, Sammy Bananas, Nick Hook, Star Eyes, Sicksentz (Mr MFN Exquire’s DJ), Tony Quattro and more. 618 W. 48th St, come through! Suggested donation is $40 but any amount will be accepted. (Donations of canned food, clothing, blankets, toiletries, will be accepted as well.)
