If you’ve been following this here blog you already know about Telephoned, the not-quite-covers project of FG producer/DJ Sammy Bananas and singin’ machine Maggie Horn. In the interest of spreading their joyful noise to the world at large, we’re dropping their debut self-titled EP this Tuesday (1/19) featuring tracks like their take on The Dream’s “Rockin That Thang,” which Pitchfork just featured on their daily Forkcast.
You can preview these EP tracks and much more on Telephoned’s new mixtape, Off The Hook, which you can download at RCRD LBL.
And for more hottt dial tone action, come out to the official Telephoned release party at Ella in NYC on 1/20, featuring a live performance and DJ set from the duo, who will be joined on the decks by Cubic Zirconia and FG’s own Nick Catchdubs. Flyer after the jump! Read More
After a far too long (for me anyway) hiatus, FOOD GOLD is back! And since we kept you waiting far too long, we are comin’ correct with a foxy new video recipe.
For this week’s Food Gold Video Party we went on an after hours hang with the original don this column Sammy Bananas and Tyler Kord, the Executive Chef of the mighty excellent No. 7 restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn to cook up some Tofu Tacos with Pickled Blueberries.
Since one of our cameras kept crapping out (perhaps due to alcoholic osmosis) we decided to go with the flow and create our first foray into art-haus culinary cinema. Enjoy!
Plymouth Rock goes Planet Rock this week with two massive holiday shows starring Kid Sister, Flosstradamus and various FG fam and friends.
First up is a pre-Thanksgiving bash on Wednesday (11/25) in Chicago where the sibling superstars are joined by Chi house brethren Rob Threezy and the legendary Green Velvet at the House Of Blues. It’s all ages, and you can grab tickets here.
Then on Friday (11/27) the party comes back to NYC with a big Webster Hall show featuring Kid Sis and Floss alongside Donnis (his first NYC show since killing every night of CMJ) and Sammy Bananas. This one is 19+, advance tickets here, or RSVP for $1 entry before midnight. Not to be missed!
We told you there was more Bag Raidin’ to be had! Check Sammy Bananas’ damn near freestyle-y take on “Fun Punch” featuring the vocals of BK belter Carrie Wilds, available for free download from our friends at RCRD LBL.
Buy the original BR single from Beatport, iTunes and anywhere else fine digital music is sold in North America (vinyl on its way too). It’s got a new track with Donnis plus remixes from Jokers Of The Scene, XXXChange and Jan Driver.
We threw two parties in NYC to celebrate the label’s 2nd anniversary during this past CMJ fest – if you missed em, you missed out! Fortunately, we scoured the interweb to collect all the photo galleries, etc (hit us up if you have any more).
Check out Karmaloop’s great recap of Night #1 at 88 Palace above, which featured sets by Kingdom, Donnis (joined onstage by fellow ATLien Pill), Treasure Fingers, Sammy Bananas (who even rocked some Telephoned tracks with partner Maggie Horn), Trackademicks and the Honor Roll crew, and – a first for FG! – live band performances by Vega and The Suzan. Hi-Fi Cartel, Metromix, and The Culture Of Me got some pics, Billboard spoke to A-Trak for a video interview, and Beatcakes had a nice little blog post highlighting The Suzan (“probably one of the best shows I have seen in my life”).
For Night #2 we went with an all-DJ lineup at N8 in Brooklyn, featuring Jokers Of The Scene, LA Riots, Nacho Lovers and extended fam Udachi + Jubilee (Jamie from the xx was slated to play as well, but his band’s set ran late – we’ll get him in the mix soon enough!). You can check pics over at Driven By Boredom. Special thanks to Chicago’s own Thunder Horse for providing live projections / bugged visuals for both nights of festivities! See you for the 3-year bash soon…
