Foolcast 002: Congorock "The Furious Years"

Posted on Jun 1st, 2009

Volume 2 of the FOOLCAST series comes from none other than our own Italian electro prodigy Congorock, but it’s not what you might expect. We listen to all kinds of stuff at FG HQ and want the FOOLCAST to reflect that – so we asked him to put together a mix of some of his punk and hardcore favorites that would show off a different side of his personality and keep things musically unpredictable on the blog.

Says Rocco: Hey brothers, here’s my hardcore punk mix for Fool’s Gold. I wanted to call it “The Furious Years” like something related to the past – its old stuff (nothing after 2003) that I listened to when I was younger. It was total fun working on this because I rediscovered music I didnt remember at all! I put some tracks from my old bands (La Quiete and Death Of Anna Karina), Steve Aoki sings on the This Machine Kills track (his old band), and there’s even a His Hero Is Gone track called “Fool’s Gold”. I hope you like it!

Download the podcast (and subscribe to the whole series to get future mixes as soon as they drop!) at iTunes or via your favorite RSS reader at the FG podcast page. Tracklist after the jump, more heat on the way!

Update: For more Conogorock on the club tip, check out his Keep Watch party mix at the Mishka Bloglin. Ay! Read More

Fool's Gold WMC Pics + Video

This year’s edition of the Fool’s Gold WMC Spectacular was our second consecutive year tearing down White Room in downtown Miami, and we finally got back all the pics and video documenting the fun-splosion. After a packed weekend of shows, we started the day bum rushing the Stones Throw pool party, killed a giant family dinner at the steakhouse, then hit the clurb. Along with all the FG fam rocking on stage (Sammy Bananas, Nick Catchdubs, Treasure Fingers, Jokers Of The Scene and Nacho Lovers – who took over the whole side room for a night of deeeeeeep house and techno) we played host to special guests Steve Aoki, DJ Mehdi, a rare Annie Mac x Fake Blood tag team, and hometown hero Craze, who ended his set by rocking with A-Trak in an epic impromptu scratch session.

We went the whole night long, staying packed long after the other shows closed down (and gave us second and third winds as the party people trickled in). Check the pics and video after the jump, and Ian Meyer’s full photo gallery here. Also peep A-Trak and Mehdi’s solo blog recaps. Read More
