As soon as the Kid Sister remake of “I’ll House You” dropped, we knew it was only a matter of time before a mash with the original “housapella” would surface. Lo and behold! DJ Mighty Mi’s “Generation-less Mix,” which you can download here.
Check out this exclusive DJ mix and Q&A with Alexander Robotnick over at FACT Magazine. The North American version of his “Obsession For The Disco Freaks” single is out on Fool’s Gold in a matter of weeks with remixes from Nacho Lovers, Lil Bo Tweak and Freeform Five!
The latest cover-not-cover from Telephoned (Sammy Bananas & Maggie Horn) is this wonky pop take on “Turn My Swag On,” with guest vocals from Telli of Ninjasonik, a man with one of the better Twitter names out there. Download it here and grab other Telephoned tunes here.
Next week Flashing Lights bros Nick Catchdubs & DJ Ayres hit Australia for some team-up gigs, then Catch does the continent solo the following weekend (including Warehouse Festival in Canberra alongside our pals Armand Van Helden, Laidback Luke, Riva Starr and more) so be sure to come out and party.
The guys recorded this new “Just Kickin It…” promo mix for the occasion, and you can download and check the tracklist after the jump, along with the full dates. Read More
Despite a personal pet peeve against bands with people names (Why they make it hard on themselves? Hello, Chester French!) I’ve always rooted for Tanya Morgan ever since hearing their track “Pretty,” a charming lil number built on warbled BBD lyrics and a random Roy Orbison loop, sounding exactly like three friends hanging out and making music for no other reason than the fact that it’s fun to hang out with your friends and make music. Sound familiar?
They’re back this week with a new record called Brooklynatti – they’ve stepped up their production values (and promohustle) but the vibe remains the same. As a bonus beat, they’ve also leaked “What We Do,” a collaboration with FG’s own Trackademicks, and you can download it for free at the Upper Playground blog.
It’s about time we started a monthly podcast, so here it goes – the inaugural FOOLCAST, done up all nice by Toronto’s Nacho Lovers. The resulting “I Nacho NY” mix is, in their words, an “ode to New York house from the 1990’s. Everything is either by a NY artist, NY remixer, was released on a NY Label, or just fit that New York ‘sound’ of the time. This is stuff we are heavily influenced by when it comes to making music.”
Download the podcast (and subscribe to the whole series to get future mixes as soon as they drop!) at iTunes or via your favorite RSS reader at the FG podcast page. Tracklist after the jump, more heat on the way! Read More
The latest Nike+ exercise mix (where’d we hear about those before?) comes courtesy of our good buds Flosstradamus, who mix together a batch of brand-new De La Soul tracks (the trio’s first new material in years!) for a seamless running/listening experience. We will refrain from making a potholes in my lawn reference here. Oops too late! Download it from iTunes today!
“I’ll House You” is a brand-new Kid Sister track, recorded specially for Reebok’s Classic Remix project. The sneaker giant commissioned re-interpretations of beloved throwback tunes by current artists, and Kid Sis’ personal contribution is a take on the seminal Jungle Brothers / Todd Terry hip-house track “I’ll House You.” Fellow FG fam Treasure Fingers provides the beat (his ATL strip club roots are showing!) and the whole thing enjoyably connects the dots between two generations of uptempo club rap. Stream it here and get download codes at your neighborhood Foot Locker.
