Fool's Gold Remixed Tour (Belated) Recap
Posted on Nov 24th, 2008 in Live > Pics by Mr. Goldbar
Last month a bunch of the FG fam went out on the road to celebrate the release of our Fool’s Gold Remixed compilation with Scion. And now we finally got all the pics back (save for the Philly date, I blame Andy Reid…) and can share em with you after the jump.
Stay tuned for a limited edition vinyl 12″ of selected tracks from the comp, and look for copies at various Fool’s Gold and Scion events throughout the rest of this year and next. And if you can’t track the CD down, cop the remixes from your favorite digital retailer. Now onto the recap-ery!
First up on the tour was a Miami show at White Room (conveniently down the street from a massive Obama rally featuring the man himself – helicopters over soundcheck like whoa!) with Jokers Of The Scene, Nacho Lovers, Treasure Fingers and myself. The hot check-in cookies at Doubletree weren’t enough for us hungry DJs so we met up with Jake and Xavier to get some crazy fish sandwiches and po boys. Then it was rave o’clock. The show was packed and a lot of fun – there was even a dude who made his own fool’s gold with rocks and spraypaint. More pics at Smile For Camera. Afterwards I gambled (poorly) with DJ Contra on Connect 4, and we hit the beach for some nightswimmin.
We went right to ATL for the following night’s show (basically a Treasure Fingers homecoming!) and traded Nacho Lovers for Trackademicks. The hotel on Peachtree was hosting a candy convention, and the restaurant down the street filled us with turkey. Score. My personal highlights of the night’s show included the 2nd tour appearance of Patrice Baumel’s “Roar” (thx JOTS), Tap.10’s mini-set of Trackademicks-esque jams before their own set (apparently I’m not the only person with a soft spot for Lloyd’s “I’m Wit It”) and accidentally catching some insane double-bass metal drumming when heading upstairs for the bathroom.
We were at the airport early (running into Janelle Monae and her band) to get back the next day for the Fool’s Gold CMJ show in NYC, more on that here.
The tour picked up the following Tuesday in Philly, with Nachos, Treasure Fingers, Trackademicks and Sammy Bananas. That same night I went up to Boston with JOTS to shoot a video with Red Foxx and pals at their Heartthrob party, more on that in the coming weeks…
Our mini-trek finished up strong in Baltimore at the Ottobar (full photo set from Josh Sisk here) where a who’s who of mid-Atlantic FG friends came out to support: Scottie B, Devlin & Darko, Tittsworth, Dave Nada, Emily Rabbit and more. Chris JOTS and Sammy missed the memo and wore Mad Decent shirts to the label showcase (I could have strangled em, sorry Wes) and we ended the night with Baltimore’s grimiest, most gut busting sandwiches. Whoo! Thanks to Scion for setting it all up, HUGE props to all the dancing folks who came out for the mini-tour, and to everyone else don’t fret – Fool’s Gold will hit your town very soon.
