A-Trak & AJ Christou – Sway (ft. Duckwrth)

Posted on Mar 15th, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

Label honcho A-Trak linked up with Manchester’s buzzing AJ Christou (Hot Creations, Cuttin Headz) for a pair of irresistible house jams. LA’s Duckwrth lays down a breezy vocal on “Sway”, a track that evokes classic DJ Sneak and Ian Pooley productions. It’s a simple, catchy earworm that begs a repeated listen. On the B-Side, Flow State, Trizzy and AJ dive into deeper territory, creating a 7 minute submarine groove complete with scratching effects and enough bleeps and bloops to locate a whale.

Muzi – uMUZI (Edd Remixes)

Posted on Mar 8th, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

Last October, South African artist Muzi made his Fool’s Gold debut with uMUZI, an autobiographical collection of music with vignettes of the artist’s journey from childhood to fatherhood . In 2024, this project has been reimagined for the club with remixes from Dan Kye, Edd, Emmaculate, and monocolour, a brand new alias from Kyptogram. Multi instrumentalist Jordan Rakei, know by his electronic soul-jazz alias Dan Kye, delivers a remix that even adds his own falsetto vocals to “Queen” — an anthem that already featured Chris Martin (yes, that Chris Martin). Malta’s Edd transforms both “Light” and “Queen” into tasteful tech house bangers. Chicago’s Emmaculate turns fan favorite “Milk & Honey” (feat. The Last Skeptic) into a nighttime Afro house weapon. Kyptogram, who has been making waves with his project kypt. vol2, premieres his new monocolour alias with a huge remix of “Queen” complete with powerful synth lines and live percussions. Listen now.

Fool’s Gold’s latest Artist Series collaboration is with New York’s own Snoeman. The mixed media artist’s bright, playful lettering has been seen all around the city in recent years, from neighborhood bodegas and storefronts to galleries. This isn’t FG’s first time linking with Snoe — in 2013 the two collectives joined forces for a Smart Fools capsule and art show.

The Fool’s Gold x Snoeman pieces are soundtracked by an exclusive mixtape by local legend DJ Soul, who crafted an ode to the Big Apple featuring ultra rare jams and unreleased demos by the likes of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, The Notorious B.I.G. and Nas, as well as as classic party records by Kenny Dope and Armand Van Helden. Shallowhalo – You Are My Religion Now (feat. Swordes)

Posted on Feb 23rd, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

“You Are My Religion Now” was written last June as a tongue-in-cheek ode to love, limerence and cult-like figures. Sometimes you want someone so bad that you would surrender yourself to them, and it feels like the most romantic thing you can do. Sometimes obsession can overheat and become overly inscribed, banal and nearly sexless. This was the last song we wrote for the EP, and honestly almost didn’t make the cut. But when we asked our friend Kai (Swordes) to add some guest vocals and dropped in a fuzzy Korg Ms-10 bassline, it all clicked into place and became one of our favorites. Listen now.

George Reid – Runaway EP

Posted on Oct 27th, 2023 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

Shining bright with sparkly synths and urgent rhythms, Runaway is the first solo release from George Reid, the iconoclastic studio savant behind the million selling electronic sci-fi R&B duo AlunaGeorge who gave us the international smash “You Know You Like It” and the huge Disclosure collaboration “White Noise.” In his own words, George says: “I wanted to make something that musically looped like a French Touch record but had a UKG swing.” Indeed, on this EP the talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer explores the spaces in-between house, techno, garage, trance and hyper-pop. The first single “Feelings” is instant ear candy, a warm electronic hug for the dancefoor. The title track “Runaway” brings the tempo even faster, manipulating a trance vocal over a relentlessly chugging track. We take a lighthearted turn on the closer “Voyeur”, a raver weapon that bends synth stabs into oblivion. Listen now.
