Why are Jimi Hendrix samples always so literal? Fat Joe jacks “Hey Joe” and Foxy Brown takes “Foxy Lady” because – doy – their names are in there. Lupe Fiasco snags “Fire” to talk about (or rather, give evidence of) how he is… wait for it… fire. I’m not complaining tho, Wasalu’s tune lives up to the name. I wish I never knew this was a response record to the MTV “Hottest MCs In The Game” list (PS: who cares…) he sounds great, effortless like the pre-Food & Liquor tapes. (Gotta give an honorable mention to Harlem’s Cash here, for his own fun “Fire” flip (mashed with 2 Live Crew no less) “I Wanna Rock”, from a mixtape a few months back.)

How did this not come out this summer?!?!? The “My Boo” jack is boneheadedly obvious and absolutely perfect, more booty trax please! I’m surprised that between jumping on DJ Chuckie and Kid Cudi records and DJing in Vegas, Jermaine Dupri hasn’t had the eureka moment to re-establish the So So Def Bass All-Stars in an era where uptempo shit rules the club with a pumping fist.
