Dust La Rock "B.K. Scum" Exhibit Opens 3/4

Dust La Rock has shaped the visual identity of Fool’s Gold and our family of artists from the very beginning. And if you’ve been paying attention, you know his own musical tastes and personal interests are quite varied and esoteric – so it’s only natural that for his latest project, Dust has tapped into his fascination with the work of experimental sound collective and multimedia pioneers Psychic TV to create an exhibition of new works entitled B.K. Scum.
Using over 30 years of the group’s sleeve art, videos and assorted propaganda as a starting point to forge a world all his own, B.K. Scum is a showcase for Dust’s mastery of symbolism, appropriation, and the power of ritual, fitting in perfectly with the ethos of Psychic TV. For the show, he has created several new prints and paintings, as well as a fully functioning guitar in the shape of the group’s iconic Psychic Cross logo.
In addition to Dust’s art, the B.K. Scum opening will also feature a live reading from Genesis P-Orridge, the founder and only constant member of Psychic TV (along with seminal industrial group Throbbing Gristle and countless other musical endeavors.) Genesis has been a magnetic and unfailingly innovative presence in music for decades, making this an appearance that is not to be missed.
“Any good artist should draw inspiration from the people, places, and things that they relate to, and embrace those whose work has had a profound impact on their psyche,” says Dust. “Such is my relationship with Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, a ‘counter-culture icon’ and core member of Psychic TV. The purpose of this show is not only to pay tribute to the musical and visual contributions of the group, but to further their message and heighten awareness of a consciousness outside our own.”
B.K. Scum opens Friday, March 4th at 350 Broadway, the gallery / retail home of cult clothing label Mishka, who will be releasing their own Psychic TV-inspired clothing collection, as well as an exclusive B.K. Scum tee shirt available for purchase at the show. In addition, Dust has teamed up with DJ / producer Star Eyes (Trouble & Bass) for a B.K. Scum mix, a collection of Psychic TV music and rarities collected throughout the years, along with exclusive vocals from Genesis. Download it now!
