When A-Trak and Dave 1 of Chromeo teamed up as The Brothers Macklovitch, they set out to channel the sounds of their formative years: countless hours spent digging for records and falling in love with music as funk-hungry Montreal teens. The follow up to their debut single “Give Love To Get Some” (and its Waajeed and Morgan Geist remixes) is “I Can Call You” a cover of a little known 1995 gem by the R&B group Portrait, sped up and jazzed up like it came straight from their parents’ basement: with Dave on vocals Trizzy on the cuts. And it’s only right house and hip hop legend DJ Spinna (Jigmastas, Mr Complex, the Beyond Real Experience) flexes his intergalactic muscles on his “Journey Mix,” while the pioneering Pal Joey (Soho “Hot Music,” Earth People “Dance”) adds his signature loop d’loop touch to round out the remixes.
