Then a week later we hit Miami to club it out once more at Grand Central on Saturday, 3/24, this time with Jacques Lu Cont, Just Blaze, Congorock, Treasure Fingers, Style Of Eye, LA Riots, Flosstradamus, Jokers Of The Scene, Nick Catchdubs, Fifteenth and the homie DJ Canada handling party duties on the ones and twos (and threes and fours), with Miami’s own Peachfuzz crew rocking upstairs. Check CZ doing their thing at Webster Hall Studio (alongside Oneohtrix Point Never) when Red Bull Music Academy comes to town on Tuesday, 3/6. It’s free with RSVP so get moving!
CZ’s Nick Hook is a RBMA alumn from the Class Of ’11 Madrid sessions, and thanks to the RBMA Soundcloud, you can go download his collab track with Dorian Concept, Doc Daneeka, half of Tiger And Woods, and more.
This Saturday (2/18) Tammany Hall in NYC is the place to be, cause Cubic Zirconia’s Nick Hook and friends are celebrating the birth of the good Doctor. It’s Dre Day and everybody celebrating! Yes, before making headphones the man was responsible for some of the greatest rap tracks of all time. Come hear Nick, Project Matt and Egg Foo Young (aka Ghostly’s own Michna) drop bombs while you sip on gin and juice (open bar Bulldog from 9-10pm!) Get advance tix here.
The enormous Bart B More remix of Cubic Zirconia’s “Take Me High” has quickly become a DJ favorite (peep Diplo opening Holy Ship! with it and dropping on his radio show), and the band loves it too. So much, in fact, that they decided to film a video for the remix, with frontwoman Tiombe Lockhart once again pulling double duty on both sides of the camera to direct.
Watch it up top, grab the remix on iTunes or Beatport, and check more CZ vids (and Tiombe’s directorial tips) here.
Cubic Zirconia will be playing their first hometown show of the new year (and their first since opening SBTRKT’s sold-out Music Hall Of Williamsburg gig) on Saturday, February 4th at Drom. They’ll be shooting another vid there as well, so look sharp! We’ll see you there. Read More
Check out this new tour mix from Yung Bartholomew, featuring his remix of Cubic Zirconia’s “Take Me High” which has become a DJ favorite of everyone from Brodinski to Diplo (check him opening his Holy Ship! set widdit). Grab that CZ mix for yourself right here and look for Bart at an OZ club near you.
This Thursday (1/19), LA’s long running Dance Right party comes to Santos Party House. It’s free with RSVP, and it will be The Suzan’s last NYC show for a while, as they head back to Japan for an upcoming tour. Nick Catchdubs and Nick Hook of Cubic Zirconia will be playing a b2b DJ set, Midnight Magic will be rocking, and more. Did we mention it’s a free show? Come through and party with us on Thursday.
Hookemon talks Novation’s new Impulse MIDI controller in this new clip filmed at his studio in Greenpoint, taking you through the makings of a Cubic Zirconia track and giving some insight on his live setup. Geek out, and be sure to grab Cubic Zirconia’s Follow Your Heart LP and the “Take Me High” single, out now on Fool’s Gold.
“Cubic Zirconia is a considerably new, definitively genre-bending venture put together by indie-music vets Tiombe Lockheart, Daud Sturdivant and Nick Hook. Combining Lockheart’s soulful coo and perfectly in-pocket rapping/chanting with the funky, electronically-tinged instrumentation of Sturdivant and Hook, the results are as diverse as the group’s lineup.” Check out what else V Magazine has to say about Cubic Zirconia here.
