Rappin Ass Thursdays #62

Sooooo… how was your summer vacation? RAT is back after an all-too-long hiatus. Buncha tracks I’m feelin after the jump, get em all in one handy zip here if yer lazy.
Tabi Bonney “High School Jam” [mp3]
Tyga feat Kirko Bangz “Out This Bitch” [mp3]
My favorite genre is “underwater.”
Twista feat Juicy J “Yo Bitch Chose Me” [mp3]
Totally fine having the Juice in full “Bands A Make Her Dance” mode these days, but I miss that ole Three 6 soul sample shit. Thankfully, Twista made him bring the loops n 808s back out.
Ethelwulf x Amber London “Trillanation” [mp3]
Oh, was somebody talking about loops n 808s?
Busta Rhymes feat Robin Thicke “Love-Hate” [mp3]
Busta Rhymes feat Vybz Kartel “Wine & Go Down” [mp3]
Slaughterhouse feat Busta Rhymes “Coffin” [mp3]
Busta’s new one is a letdown – even for a free, Google Music-sponsored “mixtape album,” it’s a lazy one, stuffed with designer imposter beats (the ersatz DJ Mustard joint, the stock MMGish posse cut, Ted Smooth looping up old Bad Boy instrumentals verbatim, etc) without hooks or charm to back it up. Why would I expect any different? Because Busta was awesome! Don’t mock my lingering Flipmode stan-dom. Even though dude’s batting average on jams post Extinction Level Event has been dwarfed by his Body Mass Index, you can always count on him for a standout deep cut or two on every project, which in this case is provided by a surprisingly tuff Robin Thicke R&B collab (it helps that I am the kind of person who describes Robin Thicke records as “tuff”) and previously leaked, uptempo Vybz Kartel collab “Wine & Go Down.” Speaking of fast raps, kind of wish Bus got to do a full verse on this Hit-Boy track off the new Slaughterhouse LP he guests on, the beat is bananas.
Soulja Boy feat Game & Waka Flocka “Extendos” [mp3]
Start with craaaaaazy detuned synths and mixed-completely-in-the-red thump from Young Chop, add Waka in fully turnt up SQUAD! mode, rinse and repeat. These guys need to do more together! Everyone else sounds pretty good on this too but who cares.
Mike Will feat Yo Gotti and 2 Chainz “Cases” [mp3]
This is 2 Chainz rapping over an interpolation of the Mortal Kombat theme. He dresses kinda like Raiden so I guess it’s appropriate. “All my hoes excited / damn your weed is quiet.” Babality!
Eldorado Red “Drug Dealer Hip Hop” [mp3]
Dom Kennedy “My Type Of Party” [mp3]
I know these are “old” but I haven’t posted since April, simmadownnah. Between this and the A$AP tape, 55 is the new 70 when it comes to BPMs…
