Fool’s Gold 10 Year Anniversary
Posted on Apr 18th, 2017 in Announcements by Mr. Goldbar
Iconic New York indie label Fool’s Gold (that’s us) spent the past decade smashing hip hop and electronic scenes together. Now it celebrates with a full year of events that take the imprint’s DIY, party-starting spirit to the next level. Founded by DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs in 2007, Fool’s Gold has defined a generation of North American electronic and hip hop music: when Kid Cudi hit your MySpace top 8, Duck Sauce soundtracked your first festival, and Danny Brown shoved you face first into the outer limits of rap, the FG logo was right behind it, armed with a devotion to fresh talent and new sounds.
2017 is a year of milestones for the label, starting with the launch of a brand new flagship retail store in Brooklyn this May. Designed by the avant-garde architecture firm Family New York, Fool’s Gold’s Brooklyn headquarters is a combination gallery / clubhouse / one-stop-shop for physical music and full line of apparel and merchandise, including a Summer collection premiering at the opening.
This is also the year that FG’s DAY OFF festival – heralded by the NYTimes as “an annual barometer of the fertile space where hip-hop meets dance music, a space where Fool’s Gold thrives and innovates” – goes international with events in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Montreal, Paris and London. Dates will be announced next month at fgdayoff.com.
And while DAY OFF continues to grow bigger and bolder, Fool’s Gold returns to its roots with the 100% free concert series NEW YORK’S LOUDEST: a celebration of ten years of making noise in NYC. It’s not a regular club night: it’s early (6-9pm), it’s FREE, and each lineup features new artists and DJs from the label roster and beyond. The series kicks off tomorrow (4/19) with Andre 3000’s personal favorites Divine Council, FG signee Austin Millz, Brooklyn’s buzzing Dyme-A-Duzin and Bay Area transplant DJ Darling Chuck.
