George Reid
Prolific UK producer George Reid builds ebullient, melodic club tracks with remarkable ease. On his 2nd EP with Fool’s Gold, the maestro of AlunaGeorge fame weaves between the familiar tropes of Hi-NRG rave, video game synths, retro rap vocals and UK house, crafting 4 uniquely original tracks that are as club-ready as ever. His production prowess doesn’t hog too much attention, leaving plenty of room for the simple fun of dance music.
“Making this EP I wanted to experiment with how I was making music, branching out with hardware samplers and software I was unfamiliar with. The Idea of going with feeling rather than pinpoint precision.
“Jarly Kepson” was inspired by the brassy chords in “Two months off” by underworld and the bouncy ukg rhythms I grew up with. Similarly going back to my childhood, the Synths in “Tokyo Honeymoon” started off as an effort to find the instruments used in the Playstation’s original loading screen. Falling short I went down a rabbit hole of sound and tried to pair the uber digital sound with a soul sample to see how the two could work together. Between reaching for sounds of my youth and not knowing the tools inside out I was using to create them, making this EP gave me a sense of naivety therefore was the most fun I’ve had in ages creating music.” – George Reid
