Yung boss RL Grime just dropped his debut full-length LP, the bold and boisterous Void. Featuring a gang of awesomely uncategorizable electronic cuts alongside collabs with Big Sean, How To Dress Well and Boys Noize, the whole record is a must listen. We celebrated our seven year anniversary in style, bringing in Master P to rock alongside an all-fam edition of Just Blaze’s weekly “House Party” bash at Webster Hall in NYC. A-Trak played master of ceremonies while the No Limit general rocked alongside JB and “House Party” co-pilot DJ Soul, Fame School (rolling extra deep with Manolo Rose and many more) hometown club kings Nick Catchdubs and Brenmar (joined on the mic by Jersey’s Dougie F), MTL’s own Shash’U and party people galore.
Check some recap footage above, along with some photo galleries from Mel D. Cole / Village Slum (one and two) along with a collection from Sylvain Granier here. Some of our faves after the jump. Read More
Afrofuturist b-boy, remix alchemist, legit funk phenomenon… Montreal hero Shash’U is truly one of a kind. He’s been burning down stages from Boiler Room to underground street dance competition “Juste Debout” with a mix of wild style remixes and audacious originals that sound at once alien and familiar, turning even the poppiest of radio hits from Beyonce and Robin Thicke into breakbeat battle weapons. This approach has won Shash’U a rabid following (not to mention officially commissioned remixes for A-Trak’s “Push” and Chromeo’s “Lost On The Way Home”) and set the stage for his official Fool’s Gold debut, PWRFNK, due out next year.
You already know A-Trak: the modern day DJ hero, the man behind the cultural powerhouse Fool’s Gold, the wearer of many hats (he owns 46). He brought cheeky disco to the top of the charts with Duck Sauce and has been one of the most sought-after remixers in electronic music. A master at bridging gaps between EDM and hip hop, last year saw him collaborate with Lex Luger in the trap supergroup Low Pros and resurrect Cam’ron with their acclaimed Federal Reserve project.
Now entering a new chapter in his career, A-Trak releases the single “Push” and finally showcases what’s in store for his solo material. Rooted in house music, the song melds the power of festival-tested anthems with soaring, emotional synth pop. Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt lends a delicate falsetto, creating an instant earworm that feels both timeless and timely.
The release comes backed by a full EP of remixes from electro duos du jour The Chainsmokers and Cazzette, rising star DallasK, head-nod specialist GANZ and exceptionally funky new Fool’s Gold signing Shash’U, rocketing across the whole spectrum of modern-day dance music. The EP is out worldwide on 11/25, pre-order Push on iTunes and receive the original instantly! Read More
The moody beauty of Black Atlass’ Young Bloods EP standout “Jewels” gets a truly next-level video treatment from Woodkid, premiered today via The FADER. The clip features Black Atlass and supermodel Anja Rubik interacting in a surreal and completely artificial environment built frame-by-frame by the director. “The reality pictured in this video only exists in the computer I used to create the piece,” says Woodkid. “It’s fascinating and alienating too.” Watch it now and get the Young Bloods EP on iTunes.
Are you down with #RealDJing? Then A-Trak’s “Short Cuts” series of video scratch routines is for you. And even if you think a crab scratch is something to ask a doctor about, you can still enjoy the musicality and pure entertainment of Trizzy and friends busting out their finest wicky wickys for the internets at large. The latest edition features turntable wizard Teeko doing his thang with A-Trak and Milo & Otis’ banger “Out The Speakers” (available now on iTunes), watch it now and get ready to bug out! More “Short Cuts” after the jump. Read More
Production supergroup Low Pros (A-Trak & Lex Luger) and G.O.O.D. Music artist of the year Travi$ Scott dive into the matrix for their artfully trippy “100 Bottles” music video, directed by acclaimed multimedia artists Nate Brown (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Beyoncé) and Gustavo Torres (aka Kidmograph). Further establishing Low Pros’ striking visual identity, the clip follows a semi-android Travi$ stumbling through a grisly, glitchy metropolis.
While A-Trak & Lex prepare the follow up to their debut Fool’s Gold release EP 1, fans can catch a rare live performance from Travi$ and the Low Pros collective at Fool’s Gold Day Off Atlanta on Saturday, 11/1 alongside Danny Brown, new ATL stars ILoveMakonnen, Que and OG Maco, and many more.
