Laval, Quebec’s own prince of bass High Klassified returns to his Kronostasis EP (SOCAN’s Best Electronic Release of 2016) to create a wonderfully surreal video for “Gold” featuring Mick Jenkins. However, the beloved Chicago MC is nowhere to be found in director Rachid Allaoua’s dreamlike clip; instead, High Klassified stars in an engrossingly strange love story, soundtracked by Mick’s heartfelt vocals (“I got gold all in my skin / water in my eyes”) and HK’s futuristic thump.
Just when you thought exploding batteries were the worst thing to happen to your cell phone, meet the homicidal operating system of Tommy Trash & TAISUN’s “IOUE” video. Director Edward John Drake provides the ideal faux TV commercial setting (complete with breakdancers!) to conjure a neon nightmare that pairs perfectly with Tommy and TAISUN’s distorted dance hit. Play it loud and keep an eye out for Tommy’s upcoming Group Chat EP, featuring collaborations with fellow Fool’s Gold label mates created during the “Gold Gone Wild” tour.
Leaf, Lil Yachty, and a gang of girlfriends from her MBM (Magnet Bitch Movement) crew bounce through a technicolor NYC in the new video for “Nada” (directed by Matt Cohen / Itsbongoboy®). It’s more than just a night out… as Leaf puts it, “this video is about all types of women in New York coming together. You don’t have to be any specific type of girl to be part of MBM. Just be independent – ‘a woman who can provide,’ as Yachty states – and haters can’t say anything to you.” Pull up the jeep and join them!
Black Atlass teams up once again with fashion photographer Kenneth Cappello for the stark and bewitching “Blonde” music video. As BA croons (“Your lips take me to California…”) over his own minimal, hypnotic piano loops, lingering shots of Los Angeles at sunset build to a fiery climax. “Blonde” immortalizes the pull of this city’s dark side so powerfully—it’s unclear who is seducing who, but we’ll let the love burn either way.
Haunted Paradise, Black Atlass’ debut album on Fool’s Gold, promises even more snapshots of attraction and temptation. Pre-order the LP now on iTunes (out 8/9).
“Screw the fame as long as my cars is wet / my garments pressed, my weed is green, the bond is kept…” Spend a day in North Philadelphia with GrandeMarshall in the music video for My Brother’s Keeper highlight “Never Change.” Dropping jewels and enjoying simple pleasures from the block to the barbershop and beyond, Grande shows off the blue-collar bars and uncommon ear for beats that place him amongst Philly’s finest.
