Around The World With A-Trak: Australian New Year

Posted on Feb 3rd, 2011

A-Trak’s adventures (as chronicled on the Fader blog) continue.

Storytime! I went to Australia for a two week tour around the New Year and it was an action-packed adventure. I was thinking of recounting it all in iambic pentameter for dramatic purposes, but I couldn’t even come up with one lousy stanza. So here is the story as I’d normally tell it.

The Return Of Food Gold: Australia Edition

Posted on Sep 24th, 2009

Hello and welcome to the second debut edition of Food Gold. Before I get going I wanted to give props to the OG FG columnist Mr Sammy Bananas, and the label fam for passing the mantle on to me. Hopefully I can continue the excellent work that the homies have started.

We’re going to improv on these first few posts but expect to get a grip of recipes, videos, travelogues and reviews each and every Tuesday from now until food doesn’t taste good any more. Heaps Sammy

When I was Down Under a few weeks ago, I had the great pleasure to spend an afternoon volunteering with Heaps Decent, the Aussie music outreach organization set up by Diplo and run by Andrew Levins and Nina Agzarian.  Heaps has been involved in a number of projects over the past two years and one of their current focuses is a weekly class at Key College in Sydney, a high school run by the organization Youth Off the Streets.  Click through for the full story and to hear what me made!

Sammy Bananas Oz Tour

Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

Things you might not know about Sammy Bananas: he has a rather large collection of 90s independent rap vinyl (L Da Head Toucha!) and composes for jazz flute. Things you already know (and love) about Sammy Bananas: he is one damn clever DJ!

The young lad is headed down to Australia for a few shows next month and put together an enjoyably funky new tour mix that leans heavy on tracks from the red continent. Listen close for the surprises!

Wizard of Oz, pt.2: The Crash

Posted on Feb 19th, 2008

Following my last post about Good Vibrations, we’re now on the 2nd and final weekend of the Australian traveling festival. On the agenda: Sydney and the far-away Perth. People had been hyping up this Sydney show for the whole week. This would be the bigger, badder, deffer show of the bunch. We got there, scoped out the grounds as we rode around in our buggy and saw the masses of people undulating in the huge park… yep, this was gonna be a good one. Read More

Wizard of Oz, Pt.1

Posted on Feb 14th, 2008

Good on ya, mates!

(That’s a little deeper in Aussie slang than the obvious “g’day”)

I’m reporting live via my hotel room in Sydney. I’m out here doing the Good Vibrations festival. In Australia they have these festivals that hit multiple cities. It’s like being part of a traveling circus for 10 days. A traveling techno circus. Read More
