Moby is a true electronic music pioneer. He redefined rave on singles like 1990’s “Go,” then slowed down to explore its aftermath on the multiplatinum Play LP. Decades later, the man is still firing off pointed, personal salvos and dance music curveballs from his LA studio—and, in a most fitting partnership, he’s enlisted Fool’s Gold to remix his iconic catalog on the diverse new Black Lacquer EP. Treasure Fingers, Madeaux, High Klassified, and FG co-founder Nick Catchdubs each put their own spin on Moby hits like “Natural Blues” and “Porcelain,” bouncing from industrial experiments and futuristic techno workouts to late-night house and zooted club bass. Black Lacquer isn’t the Moby you’ve heard before, but a surprising collection that keeps his trailblazing spirit alive.
Tommy Trash’s newest Fool’s Gold project is a family affair like none other. The electro emperor’s Group Chat EP was assembled during the “Gold Gone Wild” tour, which paired Tommy with some of FG’s newest and truest talents, from label founders A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs to LA young guns Madeaux, Kittens and Gladiator. From the moment that first drop hits, you can tell that this project was created with the previous night’s set still ringing in the collaborators’ ears; Group Chat ain’t no quickie collage, however. Tommy’s lifetime of dance music expertise serves as a masterful spirit guide for the anything-goes experimentation, connecting the dots between A-Trak’s pop smarts and and Catchdubs’ cut-n-paste hip hop chops, adding extra oomph to Kittens late-night breakbeats and Gladiator’s trap symphonies, and polishing Madeaux’s industrial-strength darkness into a techno gem far greater than the sum of its parts. With DAY OFF shows still ringing in their ears, Fool’s Gold keeps it lit with the Hangover EP from Black Dave. Channeling the NYC party animal vibes of vintage Beasties, rap (and skate) champ Dave brings amped-up energy to the mic while producer / DJ Nick Catchdubs provides C.H.U.D.-worthy subterranean bounce. (The free BitTorrent bundle also comes with remix stems for the title track.) Crush a can to this!
The surprise Boiler Room NYC launch party for Fool’s Gold’s Night Shift compilation was one of the livest parties of the year! We weren’t able to live stream the event from LPR, but absolutely had to archive the night for posterity. FG label family Brenmar (going b2b with DJ Sliink), BOSCO, Rome Fortune and Nick Catchdubs kept it lit all night, capped by special guest MadeinTYO skrrr skrrr-ing across the stage at the exact moment his “Uber Everywhere” took the city over. Check out the all sets after the jump and give Fool’s Gold Presents: Night Shift a spin now! Read More

Fresh from ripping the stage at Fool’s Gold DAY OFF (and his Thrasher-approved part in Zoo York’s bone-crushing viral skate video NYBD), Black Dave drops his first official release on FG in the form of “Hangover,” produced by Nick Catchdubs. It’s the opening salvo from their collab EP of the same name, a collection of bass anthems and turn up tales from the city that never sleeps.
