Rappin Ass Thursdays #54

Posted on May 19th, 2011 in Downloads > Rappin Ass Thursdays by Mr. Goldbar

Cleaning out my (mp3) closet, some recent favorites after the jump. Here’s a zip with all of em too.

Fabolous “Riesling And Rolling Papers” [mp3]
This isn’t even my favorite shit on Fab’s Soul Tape. That would be the part where he says “I’ll have my dogs layin on your house like Snoopy.” Schultz!

Meek Millz and Young Sam “Marz” [mp3]
Rap rap rap rap… Meek and Samuel go in for two minutes over Jahlil Beats’ Metroid tribute. I can respect the whole no-chorus-look-at-our-bars thing, but if this had even some semblance of a hook it could have been a real fun record to drop in the clurb.

Juicy J “Stoner’s Night” [mp3]
Is there a no-DJ Rubba Band Business 2 yet? Or maybe one that cuts the Trapaholics drops but keeps all Juicy J’s intros? There are some tough records on here. Lex Luger is on the cover, but the best tracks sound more like this one, produced by the Juice and Teezio.

Neako f. Wiz Khalifa “Flesh” [mp3]
Neako “YSL Dream” [mp3]
J also pops up on the recent tape from Jersey boy Neako, which is worth Dat Piff-ing for this Wiz Khalifa collab over a slowed down loop of Shannon’s “Let The Music Play.” There’s some other interesting production choices too, like the Bjork-jacking “YSL Dream” (can’t believe it took so long for someone to swipe “Innocence,” what a beast of a sample!)

Big Shan f. Danny Brown & Earlly Mac “Polio” [mp3]
DopeHead “I’m Dope” [mp3]
Boldy James “Jimbo” [mp3]
“Polio” is not about the debilitating nerve ailment your grandpa’s friends had, but an ode to the most important piece of furniture in the scrip club, courtesy some of Detroit’s new breed MCs. On the other spectrum of hometown drum machine jams is Danny’s bro DopeHead’s “I’m Dope,” some real tweaked, minimal boom bap shit (Bandcamp tags: “detroit dope fire hiphop new Detroit”). And to complete this trio of motor city mp3s, peep Boldy James’ “Jimbo,” produced by Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids and accompanied by a great low budget video. It kind of reminds me of DJ Quik and Kurupt’s “9x Out Of 10.”

Reek Da Villain f. Lil Fame “Fall In Line” [mp3]
Fizzy Womack! Love MOP classic rock beats.

E Dubb f. Kilo Ali “Rainboots (Remix)” [mp3]
Speaking of classic rock, remember E Dubb’s “Whooty”? Frat bass throwback over Yes “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” sample…not mad for what it is. Here’s a recent-ish one from ’em that features another gleefully stoopid chorus and a guest appearance from Kilo Ali, who is the best.

Too $hort f. Jazze Pha “That’s Not Your Bitch” [mp3]
We are long overdue for a Jazze Phizzle comebackizzle.

Trae f. Young Buck “Slammin Doorz” [mp3]
SL Jones f. Trae “Swervin” [mp3]
As for the return of Young Buck…maybe? He sounds great on this Trae song. But Trae songs (and guest appearances) tend to sound great on their own so who knows.

Keak Da Sneak “Bonus Track” [mp3]
Messy Marv f. J Stalin & Shady Nate “Just To Get High” [mp3]
DJ Fresh is quietly one of the illest dudes doing it, dropping new editions of his Tonite Show series on the regular, featuring some of the Bay’s finest over all manner of cranked drum machines and chopped up 80s R&B. These are two standouts from his Keak and Messy Marv LPs.
