For those of you who checked out Drake’s album you may have noticed I’m scratching on song #5, “Show Me A Good Time”. Here’s the story of how that came about.
You could think that there was some sort of Canadian connection, or even a Kanye connection for that matter. But there wasn’t. When So Far Gone came out last year and Drizzy’s buzz went through the roof of the stratosphere of the ceiling of the galaxy, I remember thinking “wow, this is interesting, this is the first time there’s a Canadian rapper that I know absolutely nothing about.” Canada, while being a huge country on the atlas, has a very small music biz. Having been active in it for over a decade, I can tell you that usually everyone knows everyone. But the truth is, I left Montreal 4 years ago and Drake is pretty young, so in my view he just came out of nowhere. Read More
As mentioned earlier, the launch party for the Project is this weekend in NYC featuring our own Nacho Lovers and a bounty of other amazing acts. If you missed the RSVP, don’t fret, we’re going to be involved in future CP events around the globe. Stay tuned!
Y’all ready for some ravin? This weekend the massive Electric Daisy Carnival pops off in Los Angeles, and of course Fool’s Gold will be helping to put 100,000+ hands in the air.
A-Trak is pulling double duty as part of Travis x A-Trak (Friday) and Duck Sauce (Saturday), and having previewed the stage shows for both, all we can say is: y’all are in for some big surprises! Congorock, LA Riots, Laidback Luke, and more friends will also be doing it big throughout the weekend. Get psyched! More FG festival appearances on deck…
You probably have heard about the Heaps Decent nonprofit currently fighting the good fight in Australia – if not, here’s the rundown. Last year on a day off from his shows on the Parklife tour, A-Trak went down to the Riverina Juvenile Justice Centre and put this track together with kids at the HD workshop.
Read the full story on the HD blog – they are offering the track for free to encourage you to spread the word about the program, and you can also make a donation to ensure that they can continue to bring music workshops like this to underprivileged kids for years to come.
Starting this week, people walking the streets and riding the subways of NYC and Brooklyn have been greeted by the handsome trio of FG founders A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs and Dust La Rock, mugging it up for Bushmills’ new “Since Way Back” ad campaign, also featuring portraits of friends Chromeo, DFA, No Mas, and Kai Regan and co. There’s painted wall-size versions (ours is next to Alife Rivington Club), subway ads, and proper billboards throughout the metro area. Keep us posted with your Twitpics, etc when spotted!
For more, check the Bushmills Facebook page, and see more pics (and video of our photo shoot at Jonathan Mannion’s storied NYC studio) after the jump. Read More
Belvedere sent 13th Witness to Coachella to hang with the FG team for an afternoon, and this cool little clip is the result. A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs break it down for a poolside Q&A (shades of Killa!) then they head over to the Anthem Lagoon, where Donnis rocks “Gone” for the bathing suits. Watch it! (More Lagoon pics here and here)
Head on over to Beatportal to cast your vote in the 2010 Beatport Awards. A-Trak is up for “Best Indie Dance Artist” of the year, and his YYYs remix is up for “Best Indie Dance / Nu Disco Track.” Laidback Luke is up for “Best Electro House Artist” AND “Best Progressive House Artist.” Housey!
Vote for both of them (we have a reputation to uphold) and feel free to write any members of the FG fam in for their “Most Influential Person” category…
Last month we hit up Miami for yetanother smash Fool’s Gold Winter Music Conference takeover!
Duck Sauce made their triumphant live DJ debut (which New Times named WMC’s best!), DJ Sneak, Just Blaze and (surprise surprise) Laidback Luke rocked guest sets, and the whole FG DJ family put it down like never before all night at brand-new venue Grand Central in downtown Miami. Check some highlights in our wrap-up clip (once again edited by Lizi Gross) and peep a TON of photo galleries – from GC as well as the Fool’s Gold x Mad Decent “Mad Fools” party later that weekend – after the jump.
