In the world of “electronic dance music” (or any other kind of music, for that matter) Jokers Of The Scene’s recent J0T5 EP is an enjoyably expansive listen, if we do say so ourselves. The accompanying J0T5 RMXD EP takes the tracks in even more unexpected directions. But who says it can’t go any further? Download this pulverizing techno take on “Black Mountie” from Teenage Riot-er and fellow Torontonian, St Mandrew.
It’s that time of year again… Mr Goldbar’s finna get his festival on! Check out the whole fam and some special guest friends at our label showcases in Austin and Miami this month.
First up, we take over the brand new Beauty Ballroom in Austin on Thursday, 3/15 with A-Trak, Just Blaze, Danny Brown, Cubic Zirconia, Flosstradamus, Nick Catchdubs, Mr Muthafuckin eXquire, Party Supplies, Telephoned and Troy Ave.
Then a week later we hit Miami to club it out once more at Grand Central on Saturday, 3/24, this time with Jacques Lu Cont, Just Blaze, Congorock, Treasure Fingers, Style Of Eye, LA Riots, Flosstradamus, Jokers Of The Scene, Nick Catchdubs, Fifteenth and the homie DJ Canada handling party duties on the ones and twos (and threes and fours), with Miami’s own Peachfuzz crew rocking upstairs. And since these are Fool’s Gold parties, you never know who else might show up…
Check full size flyers and details after the jump, and stay tuned for even more FG festival events coming your way. Read More
Jokers Of The Scene made a video for “Black Mountie” and Spinner premiered it today. Synthesizers, late night LA streets, a lost kitty… check it out. Grab the original on the duo’s J0T5 EP, as well as reworked versions from Daniel Avery and Shadow Dancer on the J0T5 RMXD EP, both out on Fool’s Gold now.
The Jokers’ EPs have made fans out of DJs from Busy P to Spin, Now Toronto, Torontoist and East Bay Express, and peep the JOTS features in Toronto Standard and The Grid. Now it’s your turn…
The Jokers Of The Scene one-two punch continues with the release of J0T5 RMXD. It’s a companion piece to last week’s J0T5 EP, and features the sterling remix work of some of electronic music’s finest: Daniel Avery (aka Stopmakingme), Shadow Dancer (BNR), Hrdvsion (Wagon Repair), Savile & Olin, Cosmic Kids (Throne Of Blood), Gingy & Bordello (Turbo) and Babe Rainbow (Warp).
From Hrdvsion’s slow, funky take on “In Order To Trance” to Daniel Avery dropping breakbeat science on “Black Mountie” (already a favorite of Andrew Weatherall and more), this remix EP offers the Jokers’ peers and contemporaries a chance to launch dance satellites of their own into the duo’s enjoyably unique orbit. Check it out on iTunes, Beatport, and everywhere fine mp3s are sold. Read More
