The following weekend, we head down to Miami to once again tear the roof off our downtown home Grand Central, rolling with an insane roster of superfriends including A-Trak, Kenny Dope, Riva Starr, Just Blaze, Treasure Fingers, Congorock, LA Riots, Jokers Of The Scene, Nacho Lovers, Kingdom, Nick Catchdubs, Sammy Bananas and…special surprise guests? You’ve heard the quacked out Duck Sauce version, how about some more takes on Chromeo’s “Hot Mess”? Riva Star and Boys Noize-er Djedjotronic do their thing on this package out next week via Turbo, give a listen now via Soundcloud. There are some other remix treats for this tune on deck, so stay tuned…
Today, friend of Fool’s Gold Riva Starr dropped a free mixtape called Back To The Bass with simple yet strict instructions on Twitter: “NO LAPTOP SPEAKERS PLEEZ!”
Grab it here – just click the arrow on the right of the Soundcloud player.
I really like the mix, it’s full of that Made To Play / Dirtybird style of cooky bass music. In fact, around the 54 minute mark, you’ll hear the Martin Brothers remix for Kicks Like A Mule’s upcoming FG release “Funky 4”
Speaking of free mixtapes, mine is coming on Monday!
We don’t only shout out our own stuff on ze blog… Starting this Sunday (12/6) in Miami, the house rockin brothers of Made To Play are hitting US shores in support of their new Scion A/V CD, and all the shows are completely FREE with RSVP.
Come check Jesse Rose, Zombie Disco Squad, Oliver $, Idiotproof, and big homie Riva Starr – whose remix of Malente’s “I Like It” has kept Fool’s Gold posted up in the Beatport Top 10 for weeks! The NYC and LA shows even feature guest spots from our girl Gina Turner. Don’t sleep, this is sure to be a thumping good time.
Just check the playlists of folks like Fake Blood, Crookers, Steve Aoki, and Tiga. Or the remix discographies of Armand Van Helden, Bob Sinclair, Dada Life and more. Why not peep the Beatport, Juno and German club charts, where his original singles like “Music Forever” and “Lions / Gypsy Kings” (with production partner Dex) have been posted up top throughout the Summer? Shit, just give a listen to the ecstatic crowd shrieks for his sets at Shambhala and packed festivals around the globe.
Point is, if there’s a dancefloor fire getting started somewhere – anywhere! – a Malente tune has probably had something to do with it. Which is why we’re excited to present the latest chapter in his blown speaker saga, “I Like It,” a club anthem that captures all the raved-out energy of Malente’s previous work and adds a cheeky disco twist that’s right on time.
Buy the new single on Beatport, iTunes, Juno and everywhere else fine digital music is sold. Vinyl on the way! Update: vinyl is here!
Remixes come courtesy of Trouble & Bass youngster Mikix The Cat and rising mixmaster Riva Starr, who’s housey, Roule-inspired flip has already become a live staple of A-Trak (who features it on his Duck Sauce Mixmag covermount CD this fall) and other big dog deejays. These three versions of “I Like It” make for an instantly playable, party starting package that you need in your life THIS INSTANT.
