Born in NYC and raised online, GEOTHEORY embodies all the excitement and promise of electronic music’s DIY generation. After countless self-released Soundcloud jams, his Fool’s Gold debut Tales Untold is the sound of teenage enthusiasm colliding with timeless funk. “Acedia” bops like a spaceman’s subway car backflip, while “Submerged” grafts trap horns onto screwed house basslines and flute loops. The whole EP’s mix of spaced-out chords and inventive drum programming makes Tales Untold one of Fool’s Gold’s coolest (and most kawaii) releases to date.
With DAY OFF shows still ringing in their ears, Fool’s Gold keeps it lit with the Hangover EP from Black Dave. Channeling the NYC party animal vibes of vintage Beasties, rap (and skate) champ Dave brings amped-up energy to the mic while producer / DJ Nick Catchdubs provides C.H.U.D.-worthy subterranean bounce. (The free BitTorrent bundle also comes with remix stems for the title track.) Crush a can to this!
Giraffage’s new single “Bring Me Your Love” gets turned into a tender epic courtesy of Canadian sibling duo Tennyson. The digital glitter of the original is replaced by yearning strings and live drums, leaving the monumental bassline and THEA’s yearning vocals intact and aimed straight at your heart.
Madeaux is one of electronic music’s boldest upcoming acts, seamlessly weaving together unique takes on dance, hip-hop, and more. ManMan Savage is ATL’s resident turn up god, with energy levels unmatched by his contemporaries. Solo, they’re two of Fool’s Gold’s rising superstars. Together, they’re a club music supercollider, responsible for two of the year’s coolest hip-hop hybrids on their new Pull Up EP. Madeaux brings out a melodic new side of ManMan, while the young Savage turns industrial drum tracks into hypnotically catchy anthems, equally at home in the strip club or on the festival stage.
Felon return to Fool’s Gold with the jacking new single “Tusks,” taken from their upcoming EP, The Source, out this fall. “Tusks” updates acid grooves for a new generation, sprinkled with the captivatingly cut-up vocals this house trio is known for. Do what the song says and lose control, baby.
A-Trak and Tommy Trash’s “Lose My Mind” gets an appropriately insane remix from UK club champion D.O.D, replacing the original tune’s disco vibes with blasts of his signature “future jack” energy. Keep the party going with D.O.D’s Fool’s Gold CLUBHOUSE single “BOH,” and look out for equally mental “Lose My Mind” remixes by Mija and more on FG.
A-Trak’s “Parallel Lines” single with Phantogram is the gift that keeps on giving, inspiring a bumper crop of remixes that all manage to find new charms in the song’s indelible hooks. Electronic duo STFU are the latest to take a swing, slowing “Parallel Lines” down to tropical slowdance levels before adding a clever drop that sends it over the top. Download the remix for free here.
Plus, cop a limited edition Serato 7″ vinyl of the original “Parallel Lines” track at store.foolsgoldrecs.com. (Watch A-Trak spin it above!)
The surprise Boiler Room NYC launch party for Fool’s Gold’s Night Shift compilation was one of the livest parties of the year! We weren’t able to live stream the event from LPR, but absolutely had to archive the night for posterity. FG label family Brenmar (going b2b with DJ Sliink), BOSCO, Rome Fortune and Nick Catchdubs kept it lit all night, capped by special guest MadeinTYO skrrr skrrr-ing across the stage at the exact moment his “Uber Everywhere” took the city over. Check out the all sets after the jump and give Fool’s Gold Presents: Night Shift a spin now! Read More
