If you’re in NYC this week, there’s two very different ways to get your Party Supplies fix. Tonight, he’s featured at CNNCTD’s +100 launch at New Museum – not performing, mind you, but in the form of a custom Playbutton featuring exclusive music alongside buttons from Pharrell, Cindy Sherman, Santigold, Spike Lee and other New York notables. On Friday, however, he’s bringing his MPC you know and love over to the Mishka store in Williamsburg for an intimate live performance, check flyer after the jump. Read More
Taking place this week in Melbourne, Australia, the Carbon Festival celebrates “contemporary style, design and culture” with panels and events featuring artists, writers and musicians from around the globe. A few weeks ago we ran through Austin for two mega parties during SXSW: a label showcase at the brand new Beauty Ballroom, and a team-up Super Party with Mad Decent and Check Yo Ponytail that took over BB as well as the giant Emo’s East down the street. Suffice it to say… shit got live!
From A$AP (and Sammy Bananas!) stagedives to A-Trak’s big-room scratchery, these were parties none of us will forget. Check out our recap video of both nights above, along with photos from our in-house shutterbug Josh Wehle (as well as a CYP’s full cinema-style featurette on Super Party) after the jump. Read More
Telephoned is DJ/producer Sammy Bananas and singer Maggie Horn, a dynamic duo specializing in unique covers, unexpected pop jams and general good times. Switchboard sees the group turning that vibe into a monthly NYC party with remix and remake-heavy sets from their friends and fam (and themselves, of course), featuring everything from The Suzan gleefully bashing away on a Miike Snow song to Nick Catchdubs dropping a set of ’80s-jacking Bad Boy hits.
You don’t want to miss out this Tuesday (April 17th), when Telephoned celebrates the party’s one year anniversary at Drom on Avenue A. They’ll be performing alongside Mattie Safer and Party Supplies, while Nick Catchdubs, Autobot of Flosstradamus, DJ Wonder and Musa throw down DJ sets. The night is also a fundraiser for CCFA, an Crohns and colitis research organization that Maggie will be running a half marathon for this summer (more information and links to donate here). Good tunes, good cause… we’ll see you there! Check the full flyer after the jump. Read More
Pitchfork interviewed PS and Action about their magnum (stoned) opus Blue Chips (download it here) and the inspirations that helped fuel the duo’s stream of consciousness New York rap epic. Check it out for choice nugs about Hookers At The Point, Ed OG and “baby doo doo.”
The Fader just premiered the new Danny Brown track “Grown Up,” a free download courtesy of Scion A/V (who also pressed it on a limited vinyl 7″ you can find at select Danny tour dates). This Party Supplies-produced headnodder is the autobiographical origin story of a daredevil MC, chronicling Danny’s rise from misfit lunchroom battler to the radioactive rap hero he is today. (Special shout out to DJ Shiftee on the scratch chorus, and Dust La Rock on the sleeve as always.) Grab it here, and for more from Danny’s childhood, check him talking Spice1 and more with the inimitable Narduar in a video interview from SXSW after the jump.
This week’s print edition of the Village Voice has a nice chunk devoted to our homies Party Supplies and Action Bronson, and their recent collab Blue Chips (which you can download for free right here). It’s all online too: in the first article, they talk about the general creative process that led to their smoked out mini-masterpice, then in part two Party Supplies explains his YouTube to MPC sampling techniques. Read up on your read ups! And for more Blue Chips props, check out what Stereogum had to say when they named it Mixtape Of The Week.
