Food Gold: Hot Doug's

Posted on Jan 31st, 2009

It’s been a bit since my last Food Gold post, but I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I’m out in Madsion, WI right now on the third day of my Midwest swing, but yesterday I went to eat sausages with Curt from Flosstradamus and Willy Joy.  The venue was Hot Doug’s, and this was my first trip to Chicago’s legendary dog establishment.  Follow the jump for the whole story.

Sammy Bananas Oz Tour

Posted on Jan 27th, 2009

Things you might not know about Sammy Bananas: he has a rather large collection of 90s independent rap vinyl (L Da Head Toucha!) and composes for jazz flute. Things you already know (and love) about Sammy Bananas: he is one damn clever DJ!

The young lad is headed down to Australia for a few shows next month and put together an enjoyably funky new tour mix that leans heavy on tracks from the red continent. Listen close for the surprises!

Maggie Horn's Siren Mixtape Release

Posted on Jan 13th, 2009

Sometimes when I’m zoning out after hours of staring at the computer, I daydream about how Maggie Horn and I will one day have a group called “Telephones” in which we cover current pop hits.  In reality, we already do this it just doesn’t have a name yet! The promo photo will be the two of us sitting next to each other, Maggie with a ram’s horn up to hear ear and me with a banana up to mine.

Until that happens, you’ll just have to make due with Maggie’s solo material, namely her BRAND NEW Siren mixtape. It features tracks by yours truly, Blaqstarr, Curses!, Ninjasonik and more.  You can download it right here. All you NYCers best come check us out the release party tomorrow night at Webster Hall (full flyer after the jump). Don’t forget to RSVP to get in free. Then you can swing by and catch me at The Player’s Club afterward. Read More

FG Holiday Party Pics

Posted on Dec 22nd, 2008

This past Friday we had our 2nd annual Fool’s Gold holiday jam. Even with a NYC blizzard in full effect all day, the true believers came out to party with the FG fam and our special guests DJ Premier and Cipha Sounds. Kid Sister and Trackademicks cut it up on the dancefloor, Daniel LA Riots and Linus JOTS were spotted with Pepsi-n-Hennessy coctails in hand, Primo dropped “Hold It Now Hit It,” and a festive time was had by all. (Dust swears he saw Macaulay Culkin in the mix but I don’t believe him he needs more people).

Check out Ian Meyer’s gallery of party pics here, and some Trackademicks snapshots here. As a bonus beat, watch some interview footage John Brown (“KingOfDaBurbz”!) was filming at the party on his Flipcam.
