Fool’s Gold SXSW ’15 Showcase

The FG fam is making our annual party pilgrimage down to Austin this month for the official Fool’s Gold SXSW Showcase on Friday, March 20th at Gypsy Lounge. Remember when you saw Kid Cudi at our first showcase? Flosstradamus? Danny Brown?!? This year, the cross-country coalition of awesome includes fresh signings from ATL (futuristic superstars Rome Fortune and Bosco, new rap heroes TM88 and ManMan Savage), LA (beat crew Athletixx and rap diva Leaf) and NYC (underground upstarts Fame School & Manolo Rose), alongside FG mainstays Brenmar, Nick Catchdubs and Shash’U, surprise friends and fam like Jersey crooner (and Yeezus favorite!) Fetty Wap, and many more, with A-Trak himself holding it down as master of ceremonies all night long. The event is free with SXSW badge or wristband, and limited $10 public tickets will be available at the door. Shash’U “Thru Da Night” Free EP

Afrofuturist B-Boy, remix alchemist, legit funk phenomenon… Montreal’s Shash’U is truly one of a kind. He’s been burning down stages from Boiler Room to underground street dance competition “Juste Debout” with a mix of wild style remixes and audacious originals that sound at once alien and familiar, turning even the poppiest of radio hits into breakbeat battle weapons. This approach has won Shash’U a rabid following and set the stage for his debut original releases on Fool’s Gold.

The moody Thru Da Night EP (available now for free download at foolsgoldrecs.com/shashu) melds cinematic synth lines with next level drum programming that drives EDM straight through Erotic City. Yet it’s only a teaser of the bass craziness Shash’U has in store on PWRFNK, his electro opus dropping 3/31. Both EPs will be collected on a limited-edition colored vinyl release featuring joint sleeve art by acclaimed comic book illustrator Ron Wimberly.

Fool’s Gold 7 Year Anniversary Recap

We celebrated our seven year anniversary in style, bringing in Master P to rock alongside an all-fam edition of Just Blaze’s weekly “House Party” bash at Webster Hall in NYC. A-Trak played master of ceremonies while the No Limit general rocked alongside JB and “House Party” co-pilot DJ Soul, Fame School (rolling extra deep with Manolo Rose and many more) hometown club kings Nick Catchdubs and Brenmar (joined on the mic by Jersey’s Dougie F), MTL’s own Shash’U and party people galore.

Shash’U “Thru Da Night” Video

Afrofuturist b-boy, remix alchemist, legit funk phenomenon… Montreal hero Shash’U is truly one of a kind. He’s been burning down stages from Boiler Room to underground street dance competition “Juste Debout” with a mix of wild style remixes and audacious originals that sound at once alien and familiar, turning even the poppiest of radio hits from Beyonce and Robin Thicke into breakbeat battle weapons. This approach has won Shash’U a rabid following (not to mention officially commissioned remixes for A-Trak’s “Push” and Chromeo’s “Lost On The Way Home”) and set the stage for his official Fool’s Gold debut, PWRFNK, due out next year.

Before then, however, Shash’U will drop the free Thru Da Night EP, led by the muscular title track (which made it’s debut on the Fool’s Gold Draft Picks BitTorrent bundle) and accompanying music video, featuring a night-crawling preacher man with his own approach to keeping the faith. Check Shash’U live at the Fool’s Gold 7 Year Anniversary Party this Thursday (11/6) at Webster Hall in NYC alongside Master P and more, and at the Miami edition of Fool’s Gold DAY OFF during Art Basel on Saturday, 12/7 featuring A-Trak, Danny Brown, DJ Mustard and the rest of the FG fam.
