Promnite “Snake Charmer” EP

Posted on Mar 10th, 2017

Promnite is bringing the love back to club music. For all their futuristic thump and sonic precision, the tracks on his Snake Charmer EP are wonderfully, messily human. This Cali-via-NYC producer (and co-founder of LA’s beloved Athletixx DJ collective) eschews run-of-the mill bangers for the bittersweet turn up of “Gunsmoke,” featuring Denzel Curry, Nell, J.K. The Reaper and Twelve’len, and short-story worthy clubland tales on “Ride Around” with Adam Vida; meanwhile, Prom’s smooth stepper “Call Me” with Mark Johns nuzzles up against the space-age trunk rattle of “Cruise’n USA,” featuring LaDonnis. This ain’t no Soundcloud special — Snake Charmer is a four-track dive into life itself, showcasing the collaborative songwriting chops, elevated sound design and always-funky approach that makes Promnite one of the most exciting young producers in the game. Listen now (and pre-order the vinyl!)

Austin Millz “Cyclone”

Posted on Feb 16th, 2017

There’s a ton of history for New York City DJs to live up to, and Austin Millz welcomes the challenge. This Harlem party champ has paid his dues taking uptown swagger to stages around the world, and channeled that unruly energy in the studio on original tracks with Brenmar, D.R.A.M.,The Diplomats and Wale. Austin’s new Cyclone EP on Fool’s Gold takes those speaker-bursting vibes to a new level, featuring collaborations with new stars (Tunji Ige, Ye Ali, Sessi) that meld hip-hop bonafides with electronic inspirations as only a club champion can.

Leaf “FWM”

Posted on Feb 14th, 2017

Leaf channels vintage Hollywood glam in the new video for “FWM,” the latest tease from her upcoming Trinity album. She teams up once again with director Matt Cohen, who filmed Leaf’s “Nada” clip with Lil Yachty; this time they trade jeep beats for furs and candlelight, without sacrificing an ounce of fierceness.

Moby “Black Lacquer”

Posted on Feb 10th, 2017

Moby is a true electronic music pioneer. He redefined rave on singles like 1990’s “Go,” then slowed down to explore its aftermath on the multiplatinum Play LP. Decades later, the man is still firing off pointed, personal salvos and dance music curveballs from his LA studio—and, in a most fitting partnership, he’s enlisted Fool’s Gold to remix his iconic catalog on the diverse new Black Lacquer EP. Treasure Fingers, Madeaux, High Klassified, and FG co-founder Nick Catchdubs each put their own spin on Moby hits like “Natural Blues” and “Porcelain,” bouncing from industrial experiments and futuristic techno workouts to late-night house and zooted club bass. Black Lacquer isn’t the Moby you’ve heard before, but a surprising collection that keeps his trailblazing spirit alive.

Nick Hook feat 21 Savage & Bulletproof Dolphin “Head” Remixes

Posted on Feb 8th, 2017

BK producer Nick Hook’s “Head” featuring 21 Savage and Bulletproof Dolphin gets backflipped by fellow beat genius DJ Earl (“The future of footwork” — Pitchfork) and New Jersey club agitator Nadus on a brand-new remix single, out now on Fool’s Gold. These hyperactive bangers are the sort of anything-goes collaborations that only Nick Hook could put together. Crank ‘em up, pre-order Nick’s Relationships album (featuring Hudson Mohawke, 24hrs, Novelist and more) on 2×12” color vinyl (complete with playable postcard flexi disc!) at foolsgoldrecs.com/nickhook, and check Nick killing it on tour with Run The Jewels thru 3/1.

Rome Fortune “Blicka Blicka”

Posted on Feb 1st, 2017

Rome Fortune kicked off 2017 with a bang, releasing two new collaborations with Toro Y Moi to start the year and promising even more creative output to follow. He follows up in fine style with the music video for “Blicka Blicka,” revisiting a standout track from his deeply personal Jerome Raheem Fortune LP on Fool’s Gold. The Anthony Supreme-directed clip is a surreal slice of Americana, featuring Rome rapping from a dreamlike, decrepit trailer park: This is my intuition / and it says I shouldn’t be pigeonholed / they said that this shit would be difficult / to make it I needed a miracle / but I didn’t, I did it without you / what ‘chu think I would amount to? The video’s avant garde styling is matched by two futuristic, bass-heavy “Blicka Blicka” remixes from LA producers C.Z. (fresh off collabs with Baauer and Nina Las Vegas) and Cy Kosis.

GrandeMarshall “RISK/REWARD”

Posted on Jan 23rd, 2017

GrandeMarshall is Allen Iverson’s “Practice?” speech on wax: incisive, headstrong, and not here for your bullshit. From his teenage 800 and Mugga Man mixtapes to last winter’s My Brother’s Keeper LP, Grande has built a catalog of high-grade, highly personal Philadelphia rap music that answers to no one. RISK/REWARD is his latest statement piece, eight new tracks featuring likeminded Philly MCs (Tunji Ige, Pauly Sue) and producers (Noah Breakfast, HeavenInStereo) in the service of one singular, head-nodding vision. Trust the process.

Sammy Bananas “21”

Posted on Jan 12th, 2017

Sammy Bananas has been down with Fool’s Gold since day one. But on every release, NYC’s low-key party king still finds new ways to surprise, crafting cheeky-yet-chic house jams rinsed by DJ heroes from Soul Clap to Todd Edwards. “21” is Sammy’s most self-assured single to date, a no-guestlist anthem in the vein of Sagat’s “Funk Dat” and Lil Louis “Club Lonely.” ’90s inspired-basslines and MIDI sax riffs collide with the hilariously foulmouthed vocals of Nicky K, longtime Mistress Of Ceremonies and singer at the wildly popular private “theater of varieties” The Box. Crack a beer, crack a smile, and jack your body to this… no ID required.

KISSEY “Unplug”

Posted on Dec 2nd, 2016

KISSEY is the newest live wire generating sparks under the Fool’s Gold umbrella. This Stockholm-raised, New York-based creative is keeping the details of her debut release under wraps for 2017, but with a live performance on deck this Saturday (12/3) at the official FG afterparty for Scope in Art Basel, it’s a perfect time for KISSEY to tease “Unplug,” produced by Sean C and LV.
