This past Friday we pulled down the window paper, threw open the doors, and let the world see what the FG crew has been working on for months: 536 Metropolitan, our brand spanking new retail store in Brooklyn. We’re open Monday-Saturday from noon until 6pm, happily serving all your Fool’s Gold music, gear and general swag-related needs. Read More
As you may have noticed, we’ve been working on a clandestine Brooklyn storefront for a hot minute. We’re FINALLY revealing it to the world this Friday, June 24th with a special opening reception from 5-7pm. We couldn’t be more proud to unveil our new HQ, hope to see you there! Check the full press release below. Read More
We told you about SHOP, the pop-up retail jam to end all pop-up retail jams, put together by our buddy Phil Chang and the Wieden+Kennedy crew. But hey, if our word isn’t enough, see what the NY Times, AdWeek, Thrillist and PSFK had to say about the free event, which previewed last night and continues until Monday on the 6th Floor of 150 Varick Street (between Spring and Vandam).
Along with goods from the likes of Steven Allan, Brooklyn Tailors, Rogan, A-Morir and other fabulous brands, there’s a table of new and exclusive FG merch right next to the DJ booth, which – lo and behold! – we stocked with friends all weekend long. Peep the schedule above for who will be playing on each day. Come through, say hey, and buy something…
The new album by Random Axe (the underground rap supergroup of Sean Price, Black Milk and Guilty Simpson) is out today on Duck Down, featuring the appropriately grimey Danny Brown collab “Jahphy Joe.” Used to rock Rockports, swisher in the Carhartt/ I would never fuck your bitch, she look like an aardvark…
If you need further convincing, give the whole album a preview listen over at Complex.com.
This month we’re getting up with our friends at Wieden+Kennedy / Attack for SHOP, a pop-up retail event at their NYC office starting Thursday, June 16th. SHOP will feature booths from 40 of their favorite local brands (including Fool’s Gold, naturally) slinging exclusive items, samples, and more. There will be food from Eddie Huang and music by FG DJs every day until it wraps on Monday, June 20th. Peep the full flyer after the jump, stay tuned for more details (including the DJ schedule) and hit Phil Chang on Twitter for any press requests or inquiries. Read More
Check out Congorock getting his model on (he is Italian after all) in the new Mishka lookbook for their Summer ’11 line. Other fashionable DJs include our pals Nadastrom, 12th Planet, Diplo and more, peep the whole thing here.
This weekend A-Trak’s Magic 8 Ball Tour finishes up strong with a trio of Canadian shows: Zu Bar in Burlington, Ontario on Friday (5/20), the Telus Theatre in Montreal on Saturday (5/21), and Guvernment in Toronto on Sunday (5/22).
Even though the tour is coming to a close, you can still rep the 8 Ball daily thanks to Karmaloop’s exclusive tee (for guys and gals), still available on their website for a limited time. Coppeth! Read More
For our FG holiday bash two years ago, we invited Just Blaze out to play a house set (which would turn out to be the first of many parties with the Megatron Don). We posted the audio from our crazy, snowed-in basement party online, and apparently the folks at Cajual were listening, because they enlisted Just to remix Cajmere and Dajae’s classic “Brighter Days,” which is out now on Beatport. Check it out and stay tuned for some more FG x JB very soon…
Last weekend the fam trekked out to California for the opening of Dust La Rock’s “Joking Victim” at LA’s HVW8 Gallery, featuring music by Jokers Of The Scene and multimedia collaborations with JK5, Kareem Black, Angela Boatwright and Bruce LaBruce. You can now check out photos from the opening and the entire exhibition at the HVW8 website, as well as purchase prints from the show at the gallery store.
There you’ll also find the limited edition 7-inch single of JOTS “Joking Victim,” featuring an ambient “Laughter Death” mix of their show-inspiring title track, as well as Vin Sol’s darkly groovy “Trocadero Mix,” both making their wax debut. There’s only 100 signed and numbered copies of this bad boy, so grab it while you can! The “Laughter Death” mix also scores one of the pieces in the show, a video collaboration between Dust La Rock and Kareem Black, which you can check after the jump.
