A-Trak – 10 Seconds Vol. 3

Posted on Sep 17th, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

A-Trak cooked up another batch of raw SP1200 bangers and this 3rd installment is extra crunchy. Using the vintage sampler that helped define the sound of Todd Terry, Stardust and Kenny Dope, and working within the confines of its extremely short sample time, Trizzy went to work and concocted some gold. Whether it’s the insanely funky bassline of Like I Said, the hardgroove chugging of JustCantLive or the surprising techno bump of Jyeah, this EP is full of weapons. It’s obvious that A-Trak had a smirk on his face when he was cutting up those kicks and hats.

Posted on Jun 21st, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

The ever-prolific Kaelin Ellis is a rare gem of a musician. His rise to prominence has grown through his skills as a talented multi-instrumentalist and a very earnest need to build community and collaboration. This is made beautifully apparent in his Fool’s Gold debut entitled, You Are Here, Start.

Martyn Bootyspoon – Bingo! EP

Posted on Jun 14th, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

Montreal’s resident club demon Martyn Bootyspoon has been taking USB sticks by storm with banging releases on Local Action, Future Classic, Rhythm Section International and more. He makes his Fool’s Gold debut with Bingo!, an EP of hedonistic jams with all the crunchiness of High Powered Boys-era French Electro. The lineage of Chicago’s classic Trax Records and Dance Mania is alive and well on Bully-Boy House and La Ronde ’92, but Bootyspoon’s own spin is unmistakable…. and horny. .

When that asteroid comes for us, will you be hitting the club? These are DJ weapons first and foremost, filled with syncopated rhythms, laser sounds, cut-up stuttery vocals with a remarkable attention to detail. If dance music’s core function is to release one’s pressure, these two Slow Roast and Fool’s Gold affiliates delivered an excellent toolkit.

Posted on May 31st, 2024 in Releases by Mr. Goldbar

Frank Leone is a self-produced multidisciplinary artist from the woods South of Chicago. A bedroom prodigy who is just as confirmable programming beats, singing, rapping, as he is writing screenplays and creating animated TV shows. His ability to portray raw emotions in all its stillness is apparent on FISH, an album ripe with lush instrumentation and delicate patina. Collaborators such as BADBADNOTGOOD’s Chester Hansen, Coco O. (Quadron, Tyler the Creator) and Hrlum lend a few brush strokes to these songs of longing, as Frank portrays the great pink valley that is FISH.
