A-Trak Is Off Running

Posted on Jun 25th, 2008

Dudes! You’ve known since this post that I was about to come out with a record for all your jogging needs. This is essentially my first record — can you feel the excitement in my blogging style today? Anyway it’s out now and you can cop it on iTunes. It’s available all over the world but our North American friends also get a 5 minute “behind the scenes” style video shot in my studio living room.

Trizzy’s Mindspray, Vol.4

Posted on Jun 21st, 2008

I just landed in Barcelona for the famous Sonar festival. We were billed as “DJ Mehdi vs A-Trak feat Kid Sister”. I love it because it’s a math formula: “vs” is like “x” and “feat” is like “+”. But wait, there’s an issue with the priorities! Is it (DJ Mehdi x A-Trak) + Kid Sister, or DJ Mehdi x (A-Trak + Kid Sister) ? In other words, the DJs and the MC, or Europe meets America? I think I might ask the organizers. Strictly speaking, the way they wrote it without parentheses it should mean the first one. But Kid Sis actually canceled last week so they might not be receptive to my little question.

Hard LA July 19th

Posted on Jun 20th, 2008

We’ve been remiss in not shouting out the Hard LA festival, which pops off in a matter of weeks (July 19th!) at the Shrine Expo Center in LA. If you didn’t see the giant airplane ad flying over Coachella, or watched the festival’s Truckasaurus-worthy TV commercial, know this: it’s gonna be a MAJOR RAGER featuring N.E.R.D., MSTRKRFT, Spank Rock, and FG’s own Kid Sister, A-Trak, and LA Riots, along with Steve Aoki, Kill The Noise, Bloody Beetroots and a bunch of other fine folks. Get your advance tickets now. And stay hydrated!

Trizzy Does Europe

Posted on Jun 12th, 2008

Time for one of my long-winded tour novelas. I recently wrapped up a European tour that spanned the whole month of May, one which I arbitrarily named the Upper Crust Tour at the last minute, in honor of that beloved chain of sandwich shops found in almost all train stations. After doing a whole bunch of tours with other people — the Fool’s Gold fam, Mehdi, Kanye, etc — I felt like going off to clubland (Europe) and back to raw DJing practically every night for 4 weeks. Of course I wasn’t literally by myself the whole month. In most cities I was sharing bills with friends from either continent. But it did feel like a pilgrimage to the land of the DJ, and on off-days I would often link up with other producers and work on music. I loved it. I started a Flickr page towards the beginning of my trip so you can catch my full set of pics here. Let’s dive into it. Read More

A-Trak Runs Nike

Posted on Jun 10th, 2008

We alluded to it back in March, now Pitchfork is officially spilling the beans about Running Man, A-Trak’s take on Nike+’s successful series of original workout jamz from the likes of LCD Soundsystem and other upstanding citizens. Running Man features 45 minutes of original music (and serves as A-Trak’s full-length production debut), Kid Cudi pops up for a guest spot, Dust provides exclusive digital booklet illustrations, and you can cop the whole thing on iTunes on June 24th.

Have You Seen A-Trak's Justo?

Posted on May 19th, 2008

Speaking of awards…this past April, the winners of the annual Mixtape Awards (aka the Justos, in honor of their founder, the late Justo Faison) were announced at a ceremony in NYC. Lo and behold, right at the top of the list for “Best Canadian Mixtape DJ” was Fool’s Gold’s very own A-Trak. Sharing the winners circle with Khaled, Miami Kaos and Cocaine City DVD Magazine is a memorable moment, to say the least, so of course we want to be able to grab the actual award for Trizzy while he’s touring overseas. Except no one seems to know where to pick it up. If you do, hit us up.
