We brought DAY OFF to Los Angeles last month, throwing our long running NYC bash in Cali for the first time ever. Suffice it to say… it was crazy! The whole fam was in effect, with A-Trak, Danny Brown, Chromeo, Cool Kids, Casey Veggies, Congorock, Oliver, Donnis, Kingdom, Nick Catchdubs and more performing in front of a few thousand of LA’s finest party people. And when it was all said and done, we threw an afterparty with the likes of Dave1, RL Grime, Carnage, Franki Chan… Good times!
This Sunday (10/7) the crew hits Los Angeles for our first ever West Coast edition of DAY OFF, featuring A-Trak, Danny Brown, Chromeo (DJ Set), Cool Kids, Casey Veggies, Congorock, Oliver, Donnis, Kingdom, Nick Catchdubs and special guests.
The response to our initial Day Off LA announcement was so crazy that we hit capacity on RSVPs only a few hours later! We held some space though, and will be releasing 500 additional RSVPs on the website today at noon PST. (If you’ve already RSVPed, hold tight – venue info will be emailed to you before the event).
For three years running, our annual DAY OFF party has been THE most talked about free music event in New York. The Labor Day extravaganza has featured the likes of Juicy J, A$AP Rocky, Just Blaze, Araabmuzik and the late, great DJ Mehdi. This year’s party was raved about by the New York Times, Village Voice, Pitchfork and countless others. So it’s only right that we transport our hometown insanity to the West Coast for the first-ever Los Angeles DAY OFF on Sunday, October 7th!
Highlights of Cali’s inaugural DAY OFF lineup include performances from FG capo A-Trak and the label’s reigning rap hero Danny Brown, a special DJ set from world class funksters Chromeo, longtime homies and 808 kings the Cool Kids, LA favorite Casey Veggies, and many more of Fool’s Gold’s illustrious artists, including Congorock, Oliver, Donnis, Kingdom, Nick Catchdubs, and special guests. You do not want to miss this one!
Here’s a backstage pass to a funky show: last night at the Cool Kids / Camp Lo gig at SOB’s, Nice & Smooth dropped in for a guest appearance and our pal Mel D Cole was there to capture Greg Nice proudly sporting a Shake It Down tee. Grab one for yourself at the FG webstore, and check more of Mel’s flicks here.
Get your tickets now for the 4th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin this November. Kid Sister will be rocking new tracks from her Ultraviolet LP, and playing aside such fine folks as Vega, Cool Kids and MOTHERFUCKING GORILLA BISCUITS?!?!?!?!? DANZIG?!?!?!?!? Wowzers.
FG alumni The Cool Kids have a new mixtape with Don Cannon dropping next week called Gone Fishing and you can preview two tracks from it here, “Popcorn” and “Champions.” Also follow Chuck and Mikey on Twitter for the latest and greatest in Chicago Bulls news and oatmeal reports.
Update: the whole tape is out, you can grab it here and check the tracklist at coolxkids.com
Way back in 2007 when we were first launching the label, The Cool Kids’ debut 12″ single was scheduled as part of our earliest batch of releases. But when the duo decided to drop their Bake Sale EP first on Chocolate, we held back the entire vinyl run so it could be used for a future box set. And waited. And waited… until a week or so ago, when we saw that our old vinyl was starting to hit stores as-is, a random little surprise for you (and us!)
Buy it at Turntable Lab to get “88” (along with the previously unavailable on vinyl “I Rock,” “Gold & A Pager” and “What It Iz”). And check for the Cool Kids full-length When Fish Ride Bicycles dropping soon, it sounds pretty fun.
Blastmaster approved EDUTAINMENT!!!! This Friday (1/25) in NYC, A-Trak and Kid Sister will be rocking the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium along with the Cool Kids as part of Flavorpill’s “One Step Beyond” concert series. A week later (2/1), LA’s Natural History Museum gets treated to more Trizzy/Kid Sis madness when the dynamic duo crashes their First Fridays party series. Some advance tix are still available, get moving…
