Rolling Stone world-premiered the new video for Danny Brown’s “Monopoly,” a warped, analog take on rap videos directed by Holy Ghost! lensman Ben Fries. Smoke on some papaya and peep it.
It’s end of year media wrap-up time, and, to paraphrase Mr Brown, “your list ain’t shit till it had some Danny in it.” The folks over at Spin understand this clearly, and named XXXtheir top rap album of 2011. We couldn’t agree more! Download XXX here, and pick up a limited tour CD (and XXX t-shirt) at the FG webstore.
For the latest edition of Pitchfork’s Selector Series (you know, the one where they take A$AP to play lazer tag and have Curren$y rap over Gold Panda), the crew linked Danny Brown up with Joker for some Detroit vs Bristol vibes. A must-watch if there ever was one, check it out…
Who better to write the book on fun than Kid Sister? The Kiss & Tell EP offers four of Kid Sister’s latest jams with a diverse crew of collaborators. “Mickey” is a club workout from DJ innovators Nadastrom (who just helped pilot Skrillex’s sold-out Mothership tour), while “Hide N Seek” pairs Kid Sis with rap absurdist Riff Raff and bass maestros Sinden & 5kin&Bone5. Hip-hop hero Scoop Deville (Snoop, Game, Fat Joe) mans the boards for “Cliq Claq” (as featured in Stella McCartney’s recent runway shows) as well as a brand-new remix of KS mixtape favorite “Gucci Rag Top,” now featuring a guest verse from fellow Fool’s Gold spitter Danny Brown.
Still, it’s Kid Sister’s inimitable personality on and off the mic that brings these team-ups to life with swaggering verses and clever, lipstick-smeared punchlines to spare. Just like the pulpy romance novels that inspired it’s title, Kiss & Tell offers pure pleasure for everyone. Word to the rap game Danielle Steel! Grab it now on iTunes and Beatport (and check KS guesting on the new Flosstradamus EP too!)
To get you in the mood, here’s a free download of “Mickey,” featuring Kid Sis and dem Nadastrom boys at their bounciest.
Chicago DJ heroes Flosstradamus are back with the brand new Jubilation EP, their first official release since 2009’s “Big Bills” with Caroline Polachek of Chairlift. Named after a long-gone 90s nightclub in the city’s south suburbs, Jubilation uses the hyperactive drums and booming sub bass of juke house as a jumping off point for new school dancefloor sounds. Led by the Kid Sister collab “Luuk Out Gurl” (which Chicago Reader praises for “somehow bending footwork’s freakier elements to the rules of a radio-friendly pop song”) and the XXX-rated Danny Brown collab “From The Back,” Jubilation showcases Flosstradamus’ club-ready studio skills, honed by years of constant touring around the globe.
Grab it now on iTunes and Beatport – and pick up Kid Sister’s new EP Kiss & Tell while you’re at it! For even more jukin from the Floss boys, check their new Jubilation-themed mixtape. Read More
